We've been together 20yrs, since we were 17/18. At that point, neither of us had any money of our own and neither of us came from families with much money. We had no idea what we'd do as a career because the things we THOUGHT we'd be doing, we actually didn't do. I was in possession of a small child aged 18 months at the start of our relationship (but we'd known each other way before our relationship started).
I call bullshit from my sample size of 1.
I also call bullshit because my maternal Grandparents, two people who were married for nearly 60yrs, were also examples of where there was zero "social capital" that went into the decision for them to marry. Grandad was so impoverished it was Victorian. Grandma's family were not wealthy but definitely of a better financial standing than Grandad's. Yet, they were incredibly happy, worked well as a team of 2 and had a long marriage and long lives.
So, my new sample size of 2 calls bullshit and I shall be publishing this in the University of Sydney's sociological studies journal very soon | |||
