I heard you can get Naproxen over the counter. That stuff is for winners. Sorts me out every time I pull my back.

Snap!

Sorry, no recommendations as I can't see anyone until Friday and I'm doing the same as you.

Lying flat on a bed with a pillow under your knees helps a lot when it flares up. I would spend the whole day like that when mine was bad.

Go on the NHS website, there's info and a video to watch about back pain. Regular stretching (which most probably don't do) will help to prevent future problems.

Foam roller

Some back stretches like the following.

Cat / cow

Sphinx stretch

Child’s pose stretch

Just go gently will alieviate some tension

Ibuprofen and paracetamol, gentle stretches and something to relax your muscles like a hot bath or hot water bottle.

I wouldn't recommend Naproxen to anybody

I have to admit I am cautious about recommending anything to anyone. Particularly meds. But for me I had back pain for 2 weeks. I never really go to the docs, but had to. He gave me a pack of them and Omazeprol (presumably to ease the effect of Naproxen on the stomach).

I took 2 tablets and it cleared up.

OP - I hope you find your magic like I found mine.

Two tablets is probably fine. The people I've known who've taken it have noticed that they've become quite aggressive and depressed. I'm surprised it's being sold over the counter

If you get naproxen, also get a PPI to protect your stomach. You can buy omeprazole over the counter for this purpose.

Diclofenic was the only meds that really helped the pain, always eat first though, because they're not the best for an empty stomach. Deep heat worked surprisingly well too.

Ibuprofen doesn't give pain relief. Check with your pharmacist what you can take with it (usually paracetamol). I'd recommend something like omeprazole even with ibuprofen

Get a nice lady here to reverse cow girl on you ... it won't solve the pain but it will take your mind off it for a while

There stopping Diclofenic I think.

I ended up with a perforated bowl after taking them

Ohh

Well I did get heartburn a lot after taking them for years, that's when the doctor said that they're bad for my stomach, and now I have to take omeprazole daily.

I luckily have managed to wean myself off omeprazole for a while now.

Anyone taking NSAIDs (naproxen, diclofenac, ibuprofen etc) should strongly consider taking a PPI to protect their stomach. Omeprazole and esoemprazole are available over the counter - consult a pharmacist!

Manchester-ish

If you have a hard tennis ball sized object, eg lacrosse, cricket, hockey or dog ball (or a tennis ball but they're not quite hard enough) squash it between your back and a wall then go to town on any areas that feel tender or like a guitar string, using as much pressure as you can bare. Also work underneath your shoulder blade by resting your arm on your head and giving yourself a big bear hug.

I was once told by a chiropractor that a back injury should be treated like a burn. Cold reduces swelling.

Get a £20 tens machine off Amazon. Works a treat when I need it and you could always return it once your back is better

Next Door

Maybe book a massage with someone who uses hot bamboo canes/hot stones.

I get muscle spasms in my lower back often and it's the only way of found to relieve the pain.

Naproxen can cause intestinal problems it’s recommended that you take Omeprazole with it which in turn can also cause issues. I take it but not long term to avoid complications.

Also I would have used ICE not heat for at least first 48 hours, maybe a little longer.

You could potentially try a physio. Keep moving, though the tips for rollers, stretching etc are great, as well as the pain gels and heat

Worcester

I had this last Friday. Called the drs and had a pharmacist call me back and give me naproxen and codeine (and omeprozile to combat the stomach issues from naproxen).

Also got s referral to a physio which I had on Monday but was a bit shit to be honest. Back in the gym yesterday to do lots and lots of stretching and rehab/prehab work.

Don't sit for too long but listen to your body and rest it when you need to. I've got one of those massage guns so was using that a bit as well to help work the spasm out.

Still a bit thingy but at least I can sit on the loo without crying now

Evie
