I’ve been a member for a while but only started using the forums recently because of responses from other members. And also abuse for not being verified (public and private) - you don’t stand a chance of getting verified without chatting so I never understood why people do it.

I do agree though, that some validation or acknowledgement does definitely make one feel more included.

However I tend to stick more to the 'Swingers' section as whenever I reply to a thread or post anything in 'The lounge' I tend to be ignored.

However I think I'm going to try and make an effort to get involved in the forums again after a fair while away from them.

You aren't the only one to point it out. Usually threads end up a conversation between 3-5 contributors which kind of spoils it I think....so much for them being all inclusive x

To be fair, when I first joined, I would always post on the more simple and innocuous threads that are just a bit of fun and found that if I wanted replies, I should reply to others first. I don't think it's fair to expect people to just reply to your posts. You have have to include yourself as much as others have to include you.

I think it would help if people started putting more energy in to becoming inclusive rather than making it a them vs us. Replied to everyone, time and work allowing.

I try to as much as possible but also... replying to the forums doesn't pay my mortgage. So if we all made an effort and channelled energy into making it more inclusive and less hostile, less dickish to new posters, we'd encourage more folk to stick around.

It's only more recently that I have actually engaged and been more active in the forums, but that was due to an anxiety issue which is the same issue I deal with in real life interactions too. That's always a relevant but great question none the less to raise OP! x

I am a newbie and never know where to start in the forums there is lot of options and the few times I have commented I just get ignored, also many people won’t chat when your not verified but can’t get verified without first chatting

It's only more recently that I have actually engaged and been more active in the forums, but that was due to an anxiety issue which is the same issue I deal with in real life interactions too. That's always a relevant but great question none the less to raise OP! x

I'm not sure though. No one can push/force them to get involved in here to be honest. So I guess my answer would be they'll arrive here when they arrive.

Trust me, it's something I do a lot of when meeting new people. I never show all of myself off and I'm quite guarded in those situations so I can get a feel for what they're like. I'm just more confident in the forums having been here a while that I can just show off my personality as and when I want without fear of putting people off. I hope everyone who joins the forums can get to that stage

We are still quite new to the forums, the biggest off put for us is commenting on a thread with something worthwhile and being ignored. It happens a fair amount too.

This is a common complaint by many people. I've been using the forums on and off for over 4 years, and I rarely get acknowledgement of my posts. That said, I use the forums for me, only participating where I want to, so I don't expect any kind of response.

I do agree though, that some validation or acknowledgement does definitely make one feel more included.

It takes a couple of seconds to type a quick reply. It makes the forums feel cliquey which does put alot off "

I've noticed a real change lately and certainly a lot less cliquey, and more welcoming.

I do also think that if your first newbie comment is "looking for wanking buddies in Hull" you're going to get a bit of sarc

Posts like that do make me chuckle...do they ever get a response? Nope or its the endless "horny now, who wants x,y or z"

We are still quite new to the forums, the biggest off put for us is commenting on a thread with something worthwhile and being ignored. It happens a fair amount too.

This is a common complaint by many people. I've been using the forums on and off for over 4 years, and I rarely get acknowledgement of my posts. That said, I use the forums for me, only participating where I want to, so I don't expect any kind of response.

I do agree though, that some validation or acknowledgement does definitely make one feel more included.

It takes a couple of seconds to type a quick reply. It makes the forums feel cliquey which does put alot off

I don't think its just newbies that need to get more inclusive treatment. I've seen some regulars who post that get overlooked/ignored too. You just seem defensive, and it's this sort of messaging that can make a newbie back off from messaging and posting on here.

It's not your responsibility to ensure newbies feel welcomed etc at all, nor is it anyone else's but please understand that banter which has been going on for a long time between people on the forums can come across as passive aggressive when taken in the wrong context.

However, having apologised for how it potentially came across, the pile on still seemed to happen and that's why I got so defensive as I need to stand my ground in explaining my thought process, as you have as well. Sometimes I include and answer everyone on a thread, sometimes I just chat with mates.

I agree the forum can appear cliquey. It can also appear conformist in its “there’s a clique accusations” as much as it can with those that chat to their mates on an open forum.

Both ostracise, but intentionally? No. I don’t think so. Just people using a public forum how they feel on the day.

Everyone has a space here. Everyone has the right to be frustrated with it too when it’s not giving them what they want or policed by those that want people to do things the way they want.

I don't think there is a set etiquette I could be wrong tho, I usually use reply quote if I want to answer someone's comment on a thread, if I am just answering the opening comment I just use reply.

Ok, honest answer? I fucking hate that my comment could've been taken in a way to be exclusionary to others, especially when I thought the joke was obvious. I did get defensive because excluding others is the last thing I'd ever want to do and thought the pile-on for what I thought was an obvious joke wasn't fair and still don't think it is. I understood the different points of view but considering even Sparkle said she knew I was joking, I don't know why you keep wanting to push the subject.

I'm curious what the conversion rate is for people that are on fab/use the forum.

I was thinking earlier with the fab curse, if more locals used the forum then you've got more chance of meeting someone you click with.

Rather them judging them solely of the profile.

I think that what needs to happen is that newbies need to be given the space to actually participate without the small group of people who tend to dominate the forums coming in and taking over every thread.

Bluntly, they need to post less. They tend to take over threads and then it just becomes a boring rehash of pretty much every other thread.

Would’ve been a great place to come had we known about it when joining a few months back.

Can understand why some leave soon after joining and can be intense especially when couples are still early on in exploring.

More forums like this and sign posting of it would be great!
