Living alone for the first time in donkeys years.

I'm in an awesome, long distance open relationship so not I guess exactly single, but having somewhere just to myself when I've spent so long living in a family unit feels weird.

Sometimes good weird, other times it feels very isolated.

Cooking for one, coming home to an empty flat, not having the responsibilities I used to and being able to do fuck all, eat snacks all day and binge watch Netflix til the early hours feels like it did many moons ago when I'd first left uni.

Apart from Netflix. Back then it was Blockbuster Video of course.....

You can choose whoever you like as "next of kin" - there is no real legal definition. For hospitals it's more an emergency contact than anything else.

Maybe a friend can come to pick you up - it doesn't need to be family.

Titz Towers, North Notts

A family meal just before Christmas.

3 siblings, all married. 2 with kids.

That made me feel single.

An hour later, the kids had proven to be pretty irritating and my siblings lives seemed to revolve around taking their kids to events and the other couple were in deep negotiation over which room to hang a picture that one of them strongly disliked.

I was very happy to get home, to a house where the good chocs are exactly where I left them, I decide where I want to hang pictures and my time isn't spent living through my kids.

I was very happy to feel so single and carefree

I had those for mother's day and father's day too recently.

Most everything reminds me I'm single, everything is aimed at couples or families. Worst is the constant " are you dating anyone". Starting new job Tuesday and the first thing my cousin said was maybe you'll meet the one there..ffs

Spam phone calls offering me life insurance.I try explaining to them that I'm their worst potential customer because I have no direct family..

Also when i speak to old friends of my mum and dad (they have both passed) and they tell me I should get married and have children.

Experienced the next of kin thing too as previously mentioned..it bad after you've had surgery and you're on your own to recover. Just finding somewhere to stay overnight is difficult. I think you have to put the name and phone number down of the person you're staying with for 48 hours after general anaesthetic. I've thought about asking the taxi driver to pretend to be my uncle..

So I keep ignoring them so the message again and give me some attention at least. This is why I love junk mail, they NEED me, … as long as I keep them hanging.

I mostly like being single but recently being let down by someone I liked a lot and had high hopes for, and a friend referring to him and his partner as "we" in a conversation, hit a bit harder than I expected.

Try putting a long piece of string through the puller on the zipper - similar to the way surfers have on their wetsuits. Then, when the zipper is done up, just pull the string out.

I struggle a bit with thinking I’m single but officialdom says I stopped being married when she died. It doesn’t feel exactly as cut and dried as that though and can be a bit much to think about.

I have said in my profile after asking advice though.

Passed aisle at supermarket with that stuff today and wasn’t really for looking.

Not Local

"I'm officially the world's most single woman OP. I have recently accepted this fact, and am awaiting an influx of cats .

I was never a cat person, now as a single cat owner, it will be a struggle to go back to men. Give me another cat

I was never a cat person either, until we inherited one. Ailsa was never going to give it up, so I made an effort to bond. About year later I rescued another. I couldn’t live without a cat now. "

I am totally smitten too
