Most of mine know how to use modern phones, they even own them. Do they answer them when you ring ? No, they are buried in a bag or draw. Ring the landline, bingo, they answer

Yep. Better for longer conversations, as you don't lose signal or other problems related to mobiles.

We get our mobile contracts, Sky, landline and broadband all tied into the one package, so it really doesn't cost much to keep it.

Easy solution, do as I do, your provider should have a free service too, that literally answers your calls and dumps spam, or if genuine will ring and ask if you will accept the call. I have this with BT it's free and my phone never rings. I use a mobile all time but the landline comes with my broadband so it's there for emergencies.

Yes but it's not plugged in last time it was plugged in within minutes it rang and was a cold caller, had like five calls in 24 hrs.

Unplugged hasn't been plugged in since.

Don't have a landline anymore after getting full fibre to the house.

Do want one though; somehow being on hold to out of hours doctor, or your medical centre or call centres for lengthy periods of time isn't quite as good on a mobile, if after 1 hour you lose signal and have to rejoin the queue. I prefer the stability of a landline phone.

Yes and I still use it.

Talking into a proper 'phone is more comfortable than talking into a skinny, flat mobile.

I only use my mobile for calls if I'm out. If I'm home, I use the landline.

They use a device that just adds 1 to the previous number so xxxxx 59124, is followed by 59125. 59126 and so on.

Yes. I have a house phone. Wouldn't be without it.

I don't have cold callers. There's no reason why anyone would if they follow a few simple precautions.

I do think of getting rid of it at times but it never loses 'signal' and the sound on it is so much better than a mobile. It's easier to hold than a mobile and when mobile providers are down , I still have the phone.

Most of the time it's not that people 'don't know ' how to use things or that they are thick or old and doddery, they are simply expressing a preference to stay with what they know and is still available.

For some it's that they've never taken the time to learn to use them but for some it is because a landline is simply superior and they have MANAGED TO RESIST the manipulation of companies and capitalism to buy into a product that doesn't serve them. In that respect they are astute not senile.

Not everyone wants to be contacted morning , noon and night especially if there is no need.

I don't get why middle agers immediately think that there is something wonderful about their submission to technology and spending money and automatically think the olders are incapable or they don't try to see things from the 'olders' point of view.

I also find it telling that younger people get frustrated when they can't contact someone in the blink of an eye.
