"We often hear this and although I think there is truth to it, let's not forget the worst. So off the back of Woodys 90's music thread. Tell me the worst songs that time tried to forget but sadly you didn't. Already mentioned... Gazza and Lindisfarne - Fog on the Time The Mr Blobby Song - Mr Blobby " Unfortunately, people en-masse are only exposed to "mainstream" music. In reality, there is more new music created every day than anyone would listen to in a lifetime... One song that's always irritated me, is Blue - Eifelle 65. Cal

Cal" I quite like that song But yes very much agree that there is so much new amazing music being released now. You've just got to go and search for it Whereas I think chart music used to be a bit more diverse 30 - 40 years ago and as such people were exposed to broader range of music. But then again I didn't live through it so I could be talking bollocks

"Des'ree - Life: "I don't want to see a ghost It's the sight that I fear most I'd rather have a piece of toast And watch the evening news" My left bollock - which is the smaller and less intelligent of the two - could have constructed a better verse." That song always makes me chuckle... it does sound as though it was runner up in a primary school poetry competition. In general, I actually like most music. Pop music and 80's "Hair Metal" are littered with as many fantastic songs as bad ones, and the majority of chart music of any era is indelibly tattooed on the experiences that have made us what we are... ultimately, ANY music is better than NO music. Tell me the worst songs that time tried to forget but sadly you didn't. Already mentioned... Gazza and Lindisfarne - Fog on the Time The Mr Blobby Song - Mr Blobby " Listen too the production. Here how crisp the vocals are nowadays. And also how labels are more willing for you to stray away from 4 to the floor 2 chorus format.

""Music Used to be better " is a cliche as every generation has its own heroes. Its said that one forms one's musical taste by the age of 15 . And what was no1 in the charts on your 15th birthday epitomises your musical taste. That's not true in my case because few of the acts I liked were "chart acts" ...and do charts actually exist anymore..?" *Such* a cliche. You’ve just all turned into your parent. As the prophecy foresaw…

"Most 1980s pop music." Back in the 80s I would have agreed, but I’ve changed my mind since. There were some fantastic songs recorded then (as well as a lot of tosh).

"One of my constant statements! Music from the 60's to 90's will be played forever as opposed most of the shite released over the last 20 years that on the whole will be forgotten about within weeks of it being released. " So the music you were influenced by and listened to as you were growing up and then going out clubbing etc. will be played forever but the music from after you got old and boring won’t? You got old, the world and music moved on. When it’s the young people of today in charge of radio stations they will play the music they grew up with, and they’ll laugh at the old fogeys who want that old fashioned rubbish from the 90s.

I'm afraid you are very wrong. Will anything in the top 20 now (apart from the re-releases) get played in 1, 2, 20, 50 years time? I very much doubt it! The reason being that most music now is released because the producers know it will sell today and will make them lots of money and is generally down to what the performer looks like rather than how talented they are. The classics I'm talking about were written and performed by talented artists who didn't give a toss on what they looked like but were passionate about "their" material, their music and their individuality. I'm afraid those days are over!

I'm afraid those days are over! " Pop stars have always been picked for their looks, and have always had songs written for them. Pretty much all of the Motown artists had songs written for them by other people. You don’t like today’s music, and that’s fine, very rarely do old people like young people’s music, but don’t imagine for second that there aren’t talented musicians working today, just because you don’t know who they are. What’s being played on radio 1 now will be played on radio 2 in 20 or 30 years time. That’s just how it works. The likes of Blur and Oasus were massive in the 90s but these days are confined to the old fart stations.
