Style gurus of fab, I’m after some advice please. A female colleague at work complimented me on what I was wearing at a works do, my usual standard attire, nice shirt, smart jeans, tan brogues. However the slight sting in the tail was that she said I’d look better and classier if my shirt was one requiring cufflinks she even showed me some nice Paul Smith cuff links online.

I’m not averse to cuff links but they can be a right faff. So what’s your view is shirt with cuff links more classy than plain old button cuffs?

I'll put on cufflinks for jobs when I'm being paid top dollar, otherwise button cuff. Casually, it's a no-no from me. Plus the shirts are a pain in the arse to iron, although I saw some shirts once that allowed for the option of cufflinks on a button shirt. Perhaps you should ask if she'll iron your shirts

Although I usually take them off halfway through the night and roll my sleeves up - that works

It depends. I wouldn't wear a single cuffed shirt with a suit, but with jeans would usually wear a more casual shirt that wouldn't need cufflinks...

Oh, and for what it's worth, I don't think they make a shirt "classier". If it's a single-cuff shirt with buttons, putting a cufflink in just looks a bit weird, imho...

It depends on the shirt. If it is a double cuff or single cuff shirt knock yourself out. I have always found shirts with buttons and a space for cufflinks an odd halfway house. Do what makes you feel comfortable, or decorum dictates.

Cufflinks look great worn with the right outfit. The right outfit is whatever you want it to be

I have a tailored women's shirt that needs cufflinks. I love it but it's a pain to iron because of the darts and shaping.

You could try using silk knots, they're less of a faff than metal cufflinks. They look lovely.
