There was a time when it seemed like every week a new phone came out with some amazing tech that hadn't been seen before everyone would clammer to get the latest phone with a 3mp camera and 3g.

My how things have progressed to the point nowadays aren't all phones pretty much the same, maybe a slightly quicker this or better that.

But paying a premium plan for a flagship phone these days seems to be a total rip off, with handset costs for some well over a grand.

Have we seen everything we can now on a mobile phone barring a few minor innovations.

I have had the same phone for 5 years and can't see any reason to upgrade whilst it's still working perfectly.

Are you a "gotta have a brand new one every two years" type or " don't care as long as it works" ?

As an add on the worst phone I ever had

HTC one.

I’ve got an iPhone se and it does me fine. Probably about 5 years old. I won’t swap it until it blows up, I drop it down the bog or apple decide I’ve had it long enough and start randomly no longer supporting a major app that I happen to use.

Phones are like broadband.

I can't believe anyone who would pay more than £40 a month for either.

I change my handset probably every three years or if the deals are good when my contract comes up for renewal.

For the moment we at the pinnacle off what we can do in such a small forum factor

At the moment the draw backs are

Heat and power limitations battery’s

Hopefully nanowire technology or as intel are calling it RibbonFET changes these things

I just upgraded from a Google Pixel 6 to an 8pro and I love it already!

The ear pods are brilliant too

At the moment nothing but I suppose the end goal is proper pc in your hand

Yes mobiles are like that now but they very lite version

Ones you start getting in to video editing and gameing on and tasks that require more power you start to see the limitations off them

I suppose the end goal for most companies tech is a all in one device that can be transported anywhere with you

You can now start cars, control your home appliances, monitor basic vitals, pay for goods, check your finances and of course play games, music, TV and movies. I use every one of those functions and embrace the technology. But have to admit - where do we go from here?

I buy a premium one when it's a year old and a newer version comes out. On sale or used.

Can't see much difference..reason for premium is that I hope it lasts a bit longer.

Pixel6pro as a main phone atm and my favourite one so far.

I used to work in mobile phones many years ago, and every year the companies were competing hard to get an edge over their competitors which led to some amazing designs.

Now though, Samsung & Apple dominate the market, so there’s no real competition.

Now, I refuse to pay a phone contract, then another contract for the phone itself as though I’m buying it out right. Sod that, I refuse to pay twice.

I've been lucky, like many, to have had phones I really liked and didn't see the need to upgrade. My last best one died this year, so I was forced into it. I love my new one as much as the last - it's much higher specd but isn't the very best available to buy.

I'd like something different from flat glass screens but the folding ones don't do it for me.

I think the huge middle ground has plenty of effective phones today. . I'm guessing mine will last at least 3 years, hopefully more. It's good that update availability seems to be getting extended

I the worst- I’m a apple fan boy and have the bloody lot near enough- I upgrade every year because I want the latest, shiniest thing- no point as it’s no real difference between this and the old one, got the Apple Watch, got a pair of air pods for work and air pods from home, total waste of money but it’s in me now
