Next Door

Til the season for the annual works Do.

Do you attend? Do you take a +1? Does your work place pay/contribute?

Does your workplace do something different rather than a meal and drinks? Or do you go down the pub and just have a good session with the lads.

These days tend to be smaller team meals and drinks, no partners.

Can be fun depending on the team

We go for a department meal, so 6 of us. We have been given £30 a head to spend, but if we hold it at a place linked to work then we get 50 per cent off, so £60 per person is pretty decent

I don't go. It's usually expensive. It's usually quite a distance from where I live and it's usually crap. I used to go when I worked at my old place - they were fun

Off down to that there London in early December for drinks and food. It will be predictably messy and thankfully it’s all funded because the cost of my return train ticket plus a budget hotel is so expensive!

Work does arrange something every year,it's a billion pound company and they put a £35 limit per person on it,all expenses paid there eh!!

That's including venue, this year its in Birmingham, and wasn't a group choice so you can guess how poor that's going to be which is why I will probably be tagging along on Lichvegas pub crawl in Brum.

St Albans/ Welsh Borders

We haven't had one in a couple of years because a couple of staff couldn't handle the drink and spoiled it

Staff are leaving now so next year hopefully we can

I am taking my team out for a Christmas themed afternoon tea on the last day before Christmas. It's an early finish day as well so an excuse to go to work all dolled up

I'm meant to be organising ours, yay pick the most anti social person to do it. Good choice

I won't go though. I like the people I work with, but I don't want to see them anymore than I have to.

We usually have the whole corporate black tie dinner and drinks, the company pays for the whole thing and the big bosses fly over from America to attend. It's a mixture of tedious (having to be on your best behaviour and laugh at the bosses unfunny jokes), and amusing (there's always at least one person that has way too much free wine and makes an arse of themselves).

I usually go because it's expected, but I'm missing it this year as I'm out of the country when it's being held.

The last christmas do our company had, was a two day conference. Everyone got wasted Friday night, then they weren't interested in what was being said in each session, as they were all thinking of driving home from Manchester.

The ccompany is doing a christmas event this year, but you have to buy tickets.

Down the pub and get hammered! Before I was married I'd invariably end up with one of the girls

We’re having dinner as a team on the night between two meetings. As I’m staying away I can claim it back within a limit. I’m in the public sector so no fancy do for us.

Dave's work does nothing (not even a pay rise these last 4 years)

Caroline's school does nothing for support staff, so we organise & pay for - our own, it's this Saturday night in fact.

My employer does nothing. No event and no funding. As a team we go for a meal. We pay for ourselves and have a few hours of nice chat. I don't think I've ever missed one, even when I was in maternity leave

Ahhh the joys of being self employed own boss.

I will probably have to pay for it all myself and try to keep the bosses hands off me while he gets more and more tipsy.

Looking forward to my running club do. That will be 3 courses and a night of dancing.

I haven’t. So does anyone need a plus 1? I promise to give your work colleagues something to gossip about when you go back in the new year.

If I have a free evening I aren't spending it with work colleagues. I'm spending it on a penis.

Reports that staff were told to enjoy their non denominational festive celebrations but reminded of their responsibilities under the law on harassment, exclusion etc..

Don't think Tom went to one since .

I'm looking forward to our works Christmas do. It's the first face to face one since before covid. Luckily I like the people I work with and work are paying for dinner at a swanky hotel. Because we all work remotely now I do miss seeing everyone so I'm looking forward to a night away.

We sort of have a buffet spread put on an afternoon near to the office closing for Christmas for our community staff to pop in between calls Because some staff work nights, days or evenings and some are on call it’s hard to get everyone together.

We do have vouchers etc though. Only a small Company so anything is better than nothing.
