"I’m glad it’s a woman posting this .. it’ll be a civilised debate and not a witch hunt had a single guy posted it! It’s strange isn’t it? I think people are conditioned to automatically take offence and interpret things the most negative way possible these days. I’ve had (something I can’t mention on here as it breaks the rules ) due to people totally misinterpreting a light hearted quip. The trouble is you can’t hear the tone of voice or see the body language in written text so it’s much easier to take things the wrong way! Has anyone else noticed this and an intolerance to others' posts? There's a lot wrong going on in the world, so much so we should be looking for light-hearted stuff elsewhere for our own well-being." I think there has been intolerance on here (and online in general) for years. Humour is weird. What I find funny, might be offensive to others, and vise versa. I have a very dry sense of humour. I often make jokes and seemingly no one else gets it. Which is fine because that makes it funnier for me

Thankfully people don't all have the same "sense of humour" and some people think they are funny as fuck even though they perhaps aren't. But yes some folks, include myself, sometimes forget it's supposed to be a bit of fun, and more recently there seem to be a fair few lecturers contributing. But people are free to participate or not. Tits bum fanny (a little something for the others).

I darn't post anything I find funny or humorous as I'm not politically correct ,and would no doubt offend someone with my extremly dry sense of humour. "It's just the few usual suspects making c**** comments,to provoke a drama, appear clever (with the aid of Wikipedia/Google),flash their pc credentials or be offended on someone else's behalf." Hit the nail on the head. Since political correctness reared its ugly head , there has been people who seem to have made it their life's ambition to feel offended about anything and everything . And then we have those who get all offended on someone's behalf ,even though they arnt offended for themselves . PC, wokeness and virtue signalling have infested society un-noticed ,trying to shut down any form of humour that doesn't tow the party line ,or is in the slightest bit controversial.

"This is a tricky one at times, in real life never mind online. Yes people can be oversensitive but "it was only a joke" defense when being abusive or offensive is the oldest and lamest defence in the book and more recently blaming PC. It's a fine line to tread. The first bit of the Forum rules "treat others with respect and you can't go far wrong" is a good guideline and if when making jokes you do this then won't go wrong on here. If you're idea of making a joke is saying something disrespectful and abusive wrapped up as a joke then might run into problems. I would give examples but might get a timeout PS general comment and not referring to your behaviour OP " Don't forget the ubiquitous smiley face or rainbow which is a get out of jail free card to excuse any offence.

"I suppose humour is quite subjective in itself. And forums shouldn’t be taken seriously. It’s online and some people will forever spend too much time connected to a screen without appreciating that it’s far less powerful or useful than the laughing alongside someone physically. Just keep smiling and laughing when you can. Or tell jokes you find funny, if nobody else gets your humour, it’s their fault and they’re wrong " I like that pov... I know it's cos I agree with it.

I don't know if I'm more selective about where I post things now, but the internet has felt like a much nicer place in recent years and I think a lot of it is because I'm more willing to walk away from an unproductive discussion rather than feeling like I must get the last word in. "I've noticed that since this incarnation on here, there seems to be a lack of sense of humour in posts, or rather people perceiving my humour in all seriousness even though I use emoticons. Has anyone else noticed this and an intolerance to others' posts? There's a lot wrong going on in the world, so much so we should be looking for light-hearted stuff elsewhere for our own well-being. Fab forums have a bad case of “looking to be offended” . But is that as much as people looking to offend? pt" I don't find any humour offensive. Maybe that's because I have the skin of a Rhino ,or because I'm from a generation that was brought up to speak our minds and that "sticks and stones may break your bones, but calling names can't hurt you ". Literally nothing offends me where humour is concerned . I'm amazed how many people these days feel offended by humour. Only the other day ,on another forum I use , the PC brigade jumped on me for taking the piss out of Religion. I was like, WTF ?

"I’m glad it’s a woman posting this .. it’ll be a civilised debate and not a witch hunt had a single guy posted it! It’s strange isn’t it? I think people are conditioned to automatically take offence and interpret things the most negative way possible these days. I’ve had (something I can’t mention on here as it breaks the rules ) due to people totally misinterpreting a light hearted quip. The trouble is you can’t hear the tone of voice or see the body language in written text so it’s much easier to take things the wrong way! "All I said was that piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah"" Stone him!!!
