" So everybody providing this thing "free" at point of use is working for free and there are no costs of providing this free thing because it's all free." Well...when put that succinctly!!! Broadly, you remove money and profit from an equation, then yes everything becomes free because nobody then has to do anything for a profit, or pay other people to do it. Granted, most people would then do absolutely nothing, but it's utopia so we can gloss over that. Most people need a motivating factor so they get up and get stuff done...and that's the point where a money free utopia would fall down.

"Who’s paying for all this stuff? Everyone happy to have another 10p in the £ tax? I don’t disagree that some stuff should be available with no charge. But I’m also a realist and wonder where the money for it comes from." We pay a specific adult social care precept in our council tax but I've been waiting since February for our new house to be assessed for adaptations required. The main thing was ramp access to get inside with my wheelchair. I couldn't get in/out without someone helping me due to steps front and back and unsuitable for folding ramps. One person on here (aside Mr KC) knows why I now have a front ramp. It's not because our "adult social care precept" has paid for it. I'm still waiting for the rest to be assessed and it's now October. I registered myself with the local authority as requiring assessment on the day we moved in (you can't do this ahead of time, we didn't live in this council area before). The council is obviously happy for someone in full time employment to be house bound due to inability to get in/out. That would render me potentially completely economically inactive. WAY cheaper to install a ramp, but they seem to lack the capacity to even come and do an assessment. It's a good job I was off sick for the first few weeks after we moved (I was discharged from hospital 1 week before we moved) and that subsequently, I had to leave the house way earlier than I actually needed to, so that Mr KC could get me out. This impacted our 6yo daughter too. And before anyone goes "why did you buy a house you couldn't get inside", can they please look around and find a 3 bedroom, fully wheelchair accessible bungalow for sale and let me know? They simply don't exist, we couldn't find a house that was 100% fitting my needs. We didn't think it would take over 7 months just to be assessed. The house is accessible in the living areas. The bathroom isn't ideal, but manageable with effort. I can't really use the back garden but that's not the end of the world. I've spent the summer watching my family use the garden, from the tiny bit of patio I can access or from the back door.

"Glasses. Why do some people have to pay to see when the rest of us get to do it for free?!" Me and my glasses agree! To be fair though, standard vision correction glasses are not overly expensive. It is all the fancy anti-glare, scratch resistance etc add ons and designer frames that add up the cost

"Sanitary products Took the words right out if my mouth.. and the nappies Washable towels! Like the old days. Works for both actually" I use period undies (obviously washable). They're £25 per pair to buy and realistically you need about 4 pairs minimum because they take ages to dry. That's £100 upfront. Not cheap.

"Re-nationalise almost everything that was privatised I say. Especially water. pt " Agreed infrastructure should be controlled by democratic process. It should not be categorised as private property. We all have a vested interest in it and a responsibility to maintain it for furture generations, which has clearly not happened. Appropriation act, take it back, job done.
