Yep. I was with my then first long term boyfriend (we split up a few months before my 27th birthday).

I liked all sorts, the Cranberries, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna.

Mobile phones were still fairly basic as was the internet - ‘twas mostly dial up and I had the AOL dial up and my mum could never get hold of me because the house line was constantly engaged due to it!!

Also MSN chat rooms were a thing!

Those where the days of high adventure.

Actually our son was young I worked two jobs on the rare occasions when we went out we had to go out separately coz childcare.

Usually some shitty nightclub in Uxbridge or Croydon, Kingston but very occasionally London.

Was back in the early days of the ministry.

We where together then still together now.

Fav band for me at that point didn't really have one just music in general anything not in the chart's.

Just used to listen to Kiss FM most of the time.

Ailsa and I bought and renovated our first house when we were 26. It was her first time living away from her parents. I was reading a lot of Murakami, watching Kubrick and David Lynch, and listening to Tom Waits. In my heart I was still a student (2 degrees at this point) but with real world responsibilities of job, plus freelance work and mortgage. A busy but exciting time.

Jeez. Feels ages ago. It was a very different time. I could walk, run, jump. No wheelchair.

I was working in insecure temporary contracts in the pharma industry, he was finishing in the oil/gas industry and starting to retrain.

We had been together for 7yrs by that point.

My son was 11/12.

Music - really can't remember because honestly, my taste hasn't changed much since school. 50, 60 and 70s rock, metal and stuff like that, plus 90/2000s pop punk and suchlike. I honestly don't know what music is topical right now

It was 2007. I was living in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea. Working for a publishing company. Going partying in Itaewon and Hongdae. Downloading episodes of Lost, talking to family on my Skype In telephone number. Rihanna had released Umbrella and I had gone to the demiliterised zone for the 3rd time and to Hong Kong on a visa run. I watched the attack on Glasgow airport from my bed in my studio apartment above a hostess bar. I probably hadn't had sex months.

Some good and some bad times. But certainly adventure.

It was 1987, had a new job I hated. Best thing was getting out. Fairy Tale of New York was the Christmas hit. I was reading Forum and wanking much more than fucking my then wife.

I was in the Motor Trade and tits were everywhere and I had lots of different sexual experiences at work,on courses. We split just after the total eclipse as someone told her I was snogging a van driver. I wasn't but I had done many times before so went with it. Met my new wife 4 years later. Those 4 years left to my own devices were fantastic. Sex non stop, I was 40 and had my own place to play and I played with single women couples and guys.

Life was good.

I think I had gastroenteritis that year. Now that's nasty. You don't need that in your life. Apparently when I was in a&e: they took me straight in asked me what my pain was 1-10 and I growled at the doc. He said ok that's a 10. I recollect it vaguely.

Quite a transitional period in my life. When I turned 26 I'd only been married about 3 months. I was also promoted and moving to a new unit and married quarters for the very first (was living in the house I owned). So I had the challenges of moving home, starting in a new working environment, being sent of on lots of courses to learn new things and my first job in my new rank. Lots of change, lots to learn and lots of uncharted territory for me. On top of that supporting the changes for my wife and being sent on my 3rd tour of Afghanistan (but with a whole new set of lads and job that I'm used to). So basically my Ex wife didn't see much of me in that first year married (although she was used to it). It was a bit of an overwhelming and busy year.

We were together another 6 years years. I was young and foolish and didn't see the red flags that my freinds and family saw in her. They tried to tell me but they also wanted to repect my wishes. I loved her and thus my eyes and ears weren't open. I've come a long way from them days.

One of the biggest things I remember is going off alcohol. The taste of alcohol, any type, was so unpleasant. I suddenly hated drinking.

I travelled too much but at the same time those experiences led me to discover so much about myself.

I would have met my current partner in the later part of that year. But, before him I was with a different partner. We lived in two different countries. The relationship went far longer than it should have. I was in Bad Kreuzchan, Germany one night walking the freezing cold streets of the tiny spa town when I realised the partner I was with was not the partner I’d see myself with long term. I spent way too much money at an internet cafe writing him an email to them arrange a Yahoo Chat meeting to tell him I wasn’t keen to continue our relationship.

Overal, life was beautiful. I was exploring the world, myself, laughing loads, and growing.

Had lots of horses and connections and oppurtunities in that industry that led to some fun times. Relationship was probably at its weirdest, but we dragged it out for another 15 yrs or so. Was Snow Patrol about back then? It was probably them I was listening too.

"One of the biggest things I remember is going off alcohol.

Oh boy, imagine being broken up with out of nowhere and then via Email, too. "

Oh boy, imagine making assumptions without knowing the whole story, and at the same time not being able to read the details provided.

Yahoo chat was not email.

I'd already had a child for almost 10yrs when I was 26. My second didn't come along for a few years after that!

I got divorced at 26. Moved back to Scotland and restarted my life with 3 children alone.

Best year of my life although it was one of the hardest.

I was also a size 12 due to stress! A happy bonus

Oh! Relationship stuff. Yes. Erm. Well.

At 26 I was trying to build a life with entirely the wrong woman, but I wasn’t going to realise that for another nine years or so. She would have been … 20, I think? Maybe 21. Waist-length hot pink hair. Fantastic tits. Interesting piercings.

We were living above my studio, for the world’s shortest commute. Drinking and dancing far too much. Having a grand old time.

To be honest though, 26 wasn’t a particularly memorable year. Sorry.

Let's think. When I turned 26 I was living in sin with this weird Scottish bloke. I think I spent that year working hard, overpaying the mortgage, and shagging him senseless.

I don't remember what music was around, I was too busy in bed.

We got engaged that year and were married 2 weeks before I turned 27.

That's was a great time actually. I had a cool job, was living with my fiance (never made it to husband) and you'd find me at many an alternative indie gig or Vice party.

And I can now see that I had a great rack at that point, although I didn't think so at the time

Ps. Vice used to be good, honest!

Manchester-ish

I'd been living with J for a year, we'd got engaged and were planning our wedding

We had our own house, a mortgage we could easily afford, we both worked, no kids, our mates lived round the corner. Half a tub of Ben & Jerry's each was a Friday night dinner. Life. was. good.

Music wise I didn't have a particular favourite, maybe the verve, blok party, maxiimo park etc.

The vibe was we've fucking got this lads, but then 9/11.

Yes, was in my 8th year at uni studying fish so playing in the water lots. It took me to Egypt for 'research' for a few months, meet a local guy had fun there. Was brilliant. My favourite uni year.

That year I also met sometime who I went on to have had a wonderful 8 years with.

Lots of gigs, Mr Scruff, Bentley Rythmn Ace, Idlewild, Spunge. Great year!

Been thinking about this one, but I think 1996 was a bit of a dead year for me. I remember the charts being a bit crap (I just looked and they are indeed full of songs I didn't like... from Brexit at Tiffanies to You're Gorgeous (hated both) to Wannabee to Macarana (both ok in principle but..), to 3 lions, to that endless Robert Miles Jean-michel jarre type number, to Spacemaaaaan. It felt like one after the other.

Turns out they drowned out some decent rave I'd forgotten (Firestarter, Born Slippy, Breathe, Insomnia .. and the Fugees big hit and that amazing Toni Braxton song). So it wasn't totally shit.

And Britpop was about to get a bit more interesting, which was something I suppose.

I wasn't a huge fan of the 90's tbh, all the Loaded lad/ladette, supposedly "ironic" stuff I just found really embarrassing. The 'naff 90's' I called them on the millennium (when I stayed in housesitting for someone).
