Fiction rarely makes me cry.

However, a childhood memory from the late '80s comes to mind. There was an old man - Nicholas Winton - who has since been dubbed the "British Schindler" (the ending of which also made me get a little teary).

Winton saved hundreds of Jewish children during the holocaust and mostly kept what he did a secret even after the war. In the 80s his wife discovered a scrapbook in the attic naming the children he had saved and passed it to Elisabeth Maxwell (wife of Robert Maxwell) where it found it's way to the Beeb.

His story was told during two episodes of "That's Life" hosted by Esther Rantzen. In the second follow-up episode Esther asked the audience if there was anyone present who was a child helped by Winton. About 20 people in the seats around him stood up and started applauding. Then Esther asked if there was anyone in the audience who was a child or grandchild of someone Winton had helped.

The entire audience stood up...

Lots make me feel melancholy

I am legend and the dog scene

Lone survivor and the list of those who died.

Are two that definitely spring to mind

And the scenes in saving private Ryan where a now old private Ryan

Asks if he was a good man to his wife

While stood at the grave of Capt Miller who died helping him

Always get me though

"Fiction rarely makes me cry.

I saw a Trailer for the film they’re making. If I remember right Anthony Hopkins plays Winton.

Either way I’ll definitely be watching that film he was such a great and compassionate man.

"the horse dying in never ending story.

"

Artax took his own life.

He didn't get stuck in the swamp, he gave up, depression and sadness overtook him. Which is the whole point of the swamp, surprising how many people overlook or just don't grasp this part (not saying you are one of them), despite the name of the swamp being "Swamp of sadness" and makes the scene all the more heartbreaking.

I sobbed quite embarrassingly in the cinema at Paddington Two. And again when we watched at home. People should know which scene, I think!

Also Dead Poets Society. Can't go through that again.

Everything's Fine. De Niro in hospital hallucinating his dead son David. David only said "it's not your fault dad" and I had to walk out of the living room. I had some other stuff going on at the same time and I'd never cried like that. Nor since.

I kept telling my dad I loved Paddington 2 but he wasn't having any of it. He ended up watching it and he cried at the end.

I used to cry at a lot of movies but dont anymore, why? I have a husband that insists on telling/guessing the ending, talks during the bit that would make you cry.

I cried bucket loads when Barbara from call the midwife died But I was on my own so didn't have anyone ruining it lol

I get emotionally invested in everything. Films, television , even music. Bloody exhausting at times.

As an example today I watched the new Blink 182 video. Now this band was the soundtrack to my younger days leading the second wave of pop punk and all that followed. Lots of memories and feels from their back catalogue, so to listen to the lyrics and see the new video was very emotional. Clue… it references Travis’ plane crash, Marks battle with cancer, Tom leaving the band and the video has the background keep changing to some of their iconic videos of yesteryear. Makes you think about your own journey and those you’ve left behind. Not sure I’m doing it justice really but hopefully you get the idea…..
