"I think it’s funny how someone can feel so strongly about something that all they can do is write a song about it and make a few quid. " A lot of issues only reach a wider audience because someone has championed the cause, for example, written a piece of music/song that captures the imagination of the wider public and goes on to galvanise support.

If that's millions of people listening to your music and effecting change then I'm here for it. They could just write sappy shit and make their money but some try to do the right thing. J

J" Interesting way of looking at it But for instant I'll give you a historical fact with regards the hit What's going on by Marvin gay Motown didn't want to release it As they thought it was too political And then it turn out to be a big hit Because it resonated with the public .an artist creates but its the public that make it a hit .

"I think it’s funny how someone can feel so strongly about something that all they can do is write a song about it and make a few quid. " .....or a good way of making people aware of injustices or social issues. A lot of singers/bands write songs about issues that affect them or their towns For them, the only way to vent is by singing about it.

"Somethings Happening Here, Buffalo Springfield There's something happening here What it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound Everybody look what's going down There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind Stephen Stills was inspired to write the song because of the riots in Los Angeles in November 1966 " Also with Neil Young on CSNY's "Ohio" about the Kent State University killing of unarmed students Also more from the same era, Sky Pilot - Eric Burdon I'd Love to Change the World- Alvin Lee and Ten Years After (though some of the lyrics in this are not PC now!) and Bob Dylan - Hurricane

" Anything by Billy bragg" The parents of the missing girl cling desperately to hope A copper takes improper payments in a thick brown envelope And no one in the newsroom asks "Where's this headline from?" Scousers never buy the Sun International executives, they hang their heads in shame And tell us with their hands on heart, the paper boy's to blame But you who love that kiss and tell, you must bear some guilt as well Scousers never buy the Sun

"Billy Bragg - Between The Wars And mildly ironically Billy used to live near Bridport. But I believe he's sold up down there now." I used to see him most mornings getting his paper when he was in residence. Thoroughly pleasant chap, would converse with anyone. Once saw him filling up an old ladies car with fuel for her when she pulled in the the garage, as she was a bit unsteady and struggling with the nozzle.
