Why must the youth fight against themselves?

Government leaving the youth on the shelf

This place, is coming like a ghost town

No job to be found in this country

Agadoo by Black Lace. Little known fact, it's actually a protest song against the low wholesale prices paid to producers of food, including pineapples and coffee, in the West Indies.

South Wales

So we're different colours and we're different creeds

And different people have different needs

It's obvious you hate me though I've done nothing wrong

I've never even met you, so what could I have done

I can't understand

What makes a man

Hate another man

Help me understand

People are people. Depeche mode.

by the big field

UB40- One in Ten

40 years old and probably more relevant now than when i came out

I am the one in ten

A number on a list

I am the one in ten

Even though I don't exist

Nobody Knows me

Even though I'm always there

A statistic, a reminder

Of a world that doesn't care

My arms enfold the dole queue

Malnutrition dulls my hair

My eyes are black and lifeless

With an underprivileged stare

I'm the beggar on the corner

Will no-one spare a dime?

I'm the child that never learns to read

'Cause no-one spared the time

[Chorus]

I am the one in ten,

I'm the murderer and the victim

The license with the gun

I'm a sad and bruised old lady

In an ally in a slum

I'm a middle aged businessman

With chronic heart disease

I'm another teenage suicide

In a street that has no trees

[Chorus]

I am the one in ten,

I'm a starving third world mother

A refugee without a home

I'm a house wife hooked on Valium

I'm a Pensioner alone

I'm a cancer ridden specter

Covering the earth

I'm another hungry baby

I'm an accident of birth.

Yeah

I wake up every morning with my head up in a daze

I'm not sure if I should say this, fuck, I'll say it anyway

Everybody tries to tell me that I'm going through a phase

I don't know if it's a phase, I just wanna feel okay, yeah

I battle with depression, but the question still remains

Is this post-traumatic stressing or am I suppressing rage?

And my doctor tries to tell me that I'm going through a phase

Yeah, it's not a fucking phase, I just wanna feel okay, okay?

Yeah, I struggle with this bullshit every day

And it's probably 'cause my demons simultaneously rage

It obliterates me, disintegrates me, annihilates me

'Cause I'm about to break down, I'm searching for a way out

I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer

I'm a popular, popular monster

I break down, falling into love now with falling apart

I'm a popular, popular monster

I think I'm going nowhere like a rat trapped in a maze

Every wall that I knock down is just a wall that I replace

I'm in a race against myself, I try to keep a steady pace

How the fuck will I escape if I never close my case?

Oh my God, I keep on stressing, every second that I waste

Is another second sooner to a blessing I won't take

But my therapist will tell me that I'm going through a stage

Yeah, it's not a fucking stage, I just wanna feel okay, okay

Motherfucker, now you got my attention

I need to change a couple things 'cause something is missing

And what if I were to lie? Tell you everything is fine

Every single fucking day I get closer to the grave, I am terrified

I fell asleep at the wheel again

Crashed my car just to feel again

It obliterates me, disintegrates me, annihilates me

'Cause I'm about to break down, I'm searching for a way out

I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer

I'm a popular, popular monster

I break down, falling into love now with falling apart

I'm a popular, popular fucking monster

Yeah, here we go again, motherfucker, oh

We're sick and tired of wondering

Praying to a god that you don't believe

We're searching for the truth in the lost and found

So the question I ask is

Oh, where the fuck is your god now?

'Cause I'm about to break down, I'm searching for a way out

I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer

I'm a popular, popular monster

I break down, falling into love now with falling apart

I'm not a popular, popular monster

I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer

I'm a popular, popular monster

San Fernando, Gran Canaria

Off the U-Vox Album by Ultravox, a song that was relevant then but probably more relevant now....

When I was a boy there's a dream that I had

That a war if it's fought was for good against bad

And I woke up to find that the world had gone mad

And we'd all fall down

And I feel like a child again sitting observing

You're toying with power, your fingers are burning

You're pushing so hard that the worms won't be turning

We'll all fall down

While you try to pretend you're a god upon high

With your party ideals and your squeaky clean lies

When it comes to the crunch you're not smarter than I

And we'll all fall down

If it's colour or creed or your old time religion

Well fighting for that shows a pure lack of vision

The fight that we strive is the fight to survive

And we'll all fall down

Well look in the mirror and what do you see

An American, Russian, a soldier or me

When you've all pressed the buttons just where will you be

When we all fall down

It gets harder to see just what future's in store for us

Hard to see through all the wool you pull over us

Words that you give are just words to console us

We'll all fall down

And what will you do when you've pulled the release

When the sound of the thunder has drowned out the pleas

Cos after all that was your idea of peace

When we all fall down

No sun for a world that once stood so tall

No wind's going to blow and no rain's going to fall

No flowers for graves, in fact no graves at all

When we all fall down

LONDON

Foster The People, 'Pumped Up Kicks'.

A song about school shootings in America.

'Robert's got a quick hand

He'll look around the room, but won't tell you his plan

He's got a rolled cigarette

Hanging out his mouth, he's a cowboy kid, yeah

He found a six-shooter gun

In his dad's closet, and with a box of fun things

I don't even know what

But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks

You better run, better run outrun my gun

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks

You better run, better run faster than my bullet'

It's heartbreaking seeing people who have no idea about the lyrics dancing to this song.

A lot of issues only reach a wider audience because someone has championed the cause, for example, written a piece of music/song that captures the imagination of the wider public and goes on to galvanise support.

You use the platform you have. If that's millions of people listening to your music and effecting change then I'm here for it. They could just write sappy shit and make their money but some try to do the right thing.

Interesting way of looking at it

But for instant I'll give you a historical fact with regards the hit

What's going on by Marvin gay

Motown didn't want to release it

As they thought it was too political

And then it turn out to be a big hit

Because it resonated with the public .an artist creates but its the public that make it a hit .

Somethings Happening Here, Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here

What it is ain't exactly clear

There's a man with a gun over there

Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn

Nobody's right if everybody's wrong

Young people speaking their minds

Getting so much resistance from behind

Stephen Stills was inspired to write the song because of the riots in Los Angeles in November 1966

.....or a good way of making people aware of injustices or social issues.

A lot of singers/bands write songs about issues that affect them or their towns

For them, the only way to vent is by singing about it.

The parents of the missing girl cling desperately to hope

A copper takes improper payments in a thick brown envelope

And no one in the newsroom asks "Where's this headline from?"

Scousers never buy the Sun

International executives, they hang their heads in shame

And tell us with their hands on heart, the paper boy's to blame

But you who love that kiss and tell, you must bear some guilt as well

Scousers never buy the Sun

To be fair 90% of SLF songs are about the troubles

Each Dollar is so good,as it reflects on the Faux Irish movements in the USA

Lowkey’s ‘Soundtrack to the Struggle’ the entire album

A lot of songs by British rapper Akala, so articulate, even when speaking and not rapping about social injustices

"Fire on the booth" is very very good
