Both great! You have Freddie the voice then a band in the 60's who changed pop music. So much great music from the 60's era Motown, Woodstock, etc at least they played instruments and could perform live. Older music is so much better!

I don’t think you can compare them, two totally different bands playing completely different music. Queen became famous for their late frontman commanding a crowd in a stadium, something that the Beatles never did because stadium gigs were something that really happened after their touring years.

Each were wonderful in their own way but OP you’re not comparing eggs with eggs.

Well I like them together. Lennon & MacCartney were a powerhouse of song writing and were much more than the sum of their parts.

As singular musicians we got the likes of the Frog Chorus - We All Stand Together which is a stain upon society, or Imagine and Happy Xmas War Is Over, which are two fucking dreary songs.

Beatles without a doubt. Yes it's trendy to be different and ignore the fact that the Beatles were undoubtedly the greatest band of all time, and say otherwise, but facts are facts! No other band achieved what they did. Queen wouldn't have done what they did without the Beatles.

Maybe shite is a bit harsh for the Beatles, although they did write a lot of average pop fodder and wouldn’t even be looked at if they were about today- definitely right place, right time but also overrated…inspired by musicians unfairly lost in their shadow.

Queen are a walking pop rock cliche (at least The Darkness admitted they were a bit gimmicky). I’ve seen so many posts here about favourite albums, songs etc…they barely get a mention, it’s all about the gigs with the prancing show pony, whose been dead over 30 years- so little chance of being revived. Lost in the 70’s- should have stayed there

Both

Lennon & McCartney have no equals as a songwriting partnership (John & Taupin run them close imho)

Queen had 4 supremely talented musicians who each brought something different to the table & were each very gifted songwriters in their own right

Nobody creates a melodic bassline better than McCartney, and when you consider he’s more often than not singing a melody above that, it’s even more impressive

It’s widely accepted among modern drummers that Ringo set the standard

Mercury was the ultimate showman and could work the crowd like nobody else

Both were able to constantly reinvent themselves & create vastly different styles of music while retaining their core identities

So I can’t choose between them (although I did listen to Queen a load more in my youth)

Beatles. The Disney+ film showed the absolute genuus of McCartney. Before I watched it I liked the Beatles however this film really showed their talent. Queen, for me, just disnt have their depth although still superb.

I’m not a fan of early Beatles stuff, although that is what propelled them to global success.

The Beatles later stuff is way better than Queen.

I think A Day In The Life is probably one of my all time favourite tracks, along with I Am The Walrus

Totally. That documentary is wonderful. To watch McCartney doodling at the piano and creating songs as beautiful as Golden Slumbers and The Long and Winding Road is special.

It’s just my personal take, but The Beatles songs have a harmonic sophistication in their songs from Rubber Soul onwards that very few can match.

A song like “Here, There and Everywhere” seems quite simple and lightweight, but the chord changes and modulations are pretty incredible.

I actually feel that FM and Queen showed glimpses of having a similar level of songwriting mastery in the early days e.g. the start and end of Bohemian Rhapsody.

For me though, Queen went the opposite way and their songs became more “basic” over time. Basic, can be brilliant of course! I think it’s because those big rock songs would sound amazing and provoke singalongs in a massive venue.

They were brillant at that, but do kinda feel FM (and possibly others) had another songwriting side that they didn’t tap into as much once they started playing stadiums.

I also prefer the experimentation of the Beatles e.g. Tomorrow Never Knows sounds futuristic now, but was recorded in 1966.

The above is just a subjective view. It’s all subjective!

Hard to make a direct comparison. The bands were of a different generation, and the Beatles were the pioneers of the rock/pop genre.

Queen, but they are not very similar. I'd have thought Beatles and Stones would be a more interesting comparison. This is a bit like asking if you prefer Michael Bublé or Megadeth.

To be honest, to compare two bands from different eras and completely different musical styles is pretty pointless!

Know how you must have felt in the car. I had a friend who played 'Twist and shout' endlessly.

That and the 'Love, love me do' and 'I want to hold your hand' stuff sowed the seeds of my dislike of the Beatles but they did redeem themselves later with some of the way out stuff.

Can't put my finger on it but I've never been that struck with them as performers or personalities. The Liverpudlianism hardly helped endear them to me.

Never really followed Queen but like some of their stuff. I became interested when I learned that Freddie was a childhood neighbour of my curry mummy.

Cap d’Agde, France

Queen had half a dozen brilliant songs, the Beatles had dozens, I grew up with both bands but the Beatles moved music from one direction to another very different direction, they were the complete innovators, a creative force like no other band before, or since.
