Have you heard about it?

Apparently everyone will get an alarm on their mobile phone from the government to test a new public alert system.

You have to acknowledge it to able to use your phone after.

My kids told me about it and I didn't believe them but....wait for it....its all over the news!!

I think it's a bit and a bit of a worry with the Russians. The report I read said it's so they can notify people of flooding etc, but there's got to be more to it than that.

What do you think fabland?

It's an emergency alert system as used widely abroad to notify of floods, fires, tsunamis, hurricanes etc.

I've heard a lot of paranoia that it's a monitoring device or kill switch for the government to turn off your phone.

If you believe in conspiracy bullshit just turn it off.

I won't be.

We live near a nuclear power station so I'd be quite glad to get a heads up if it was going to go all Chernobyl on us.

Far enough thanks. It's not next door. They managed to evacuate all locals in Chernobyl after all using just sirens but what if you're deaf?

Imagine if a system like this had been around worldwide in 2004. Maybe 200,000+ people wouldn't have died due to the tsunami and earthquakes.

Why does everything always have to have a hidden agenda behind it?

I think that's exactly the purpose to test some kind of national alert system. Bit surprised there hasn't been in much in the media telling people what will happen.

If Vlad is sending a nuke our way, a text ain’t gonna help me

If it’s used correctly, it will just be an information system, but I know what the UK Govt are like and will probably balls it up or sell its function to the highest bidder

It’s a 21st century version of an air-raid siren. This system is already in use within the US to warn about Tornado’s, missing children, active shooters etc. it’s a carbon copy of that system but built for UK network.

It’s far easier to reach people on a mobile than on TV or Radio.

I think the test will be all UK numbers, so probably something like +447*. After that I imagine local alerts could be sent via cell towers, so anyone connected to that cell tower would receive the message rather than individual numbers.

I’m unconcerned about receiving the warning, I’ll just accept it.

The thing that worries me is how many unscrupulous hackers will use the day as an opportunity to scam vulnerable people. If you have the know how, I imagine it wouldn’t take much to send out some kind of alert/email/text that will look official to someone who doesn’t know better, in order to access personal information.

They could already do that if they wanted.

I won't forget, it's day before my birthday

I guess if the powers that be want to take control of our tech they can and they will.

We have come to rely on our phones and laptops always being there for us, it will be chaos if (when?) they won't work!!!

"Have you heard about it?

Apparently everyone will get an alarm on their mobile phone from the government to test a new public alert system.

You have to acknowledge it to able to use your phone after.

This is incorrect. When you receive the alert you do not need to take any action. It's always useful to know the facts.

I read that.

How do you know its incorrect?"

It's on the government website.

No mention of having to take any action and provides information about how to turn off emergency alerts.

My kids told me about it and I didn't believe them but....wait for it....its all over the news!!

I think it's a bit and a bit of a worry with the Russians. The report I read said it's so they can notify people of flooding etc, but there's got to be more to it than that.

What do you think fabland?"

I wonder how much it's costing tax payers... given the government already handed £37 BILLION to a group of Tory party insiders for a mobile app and never asked for our money back when it didn't work because it was actually based on just a MS Excel spreadsheet.

18 people didn't die in the storms in 1987 then?

Or 47 on Burns Day in Scotland in 1990?

Insider info …ssssshhhh don’t tell anyone I told you this but…..

When you received your covid jab, inside there were state of the art technology microbots. When you receive the text message it will alert the microbots inside and activate them. You will then become under the control of your government, you will not realise the control but those who didn’t have their jabs will see the change in all those that did.

It will be at this point the revolution shall begin with the unjabbed having to go underground to escape the controllers and what they have in store.

I’ve been lining my clothing with tinfoil since and resorted back to my Nokia 3210, all the toilet rolls, pasta and tuna tins are stored in my bunker.

Go safe and prepare

Thanks. And you can apparently opt out if you don't want to receive these alerts.

Why would you not want to though if it’s serious stuff?

I wouldn’t opt out myself.

Exactly my thought too.

So they switch my phone off, how does that benefit them?

If they send something to tell me to do something, why would I start listening to the government?

And I don’t believe in this nanobot malarkey.

Somewhere

My argument about this is that it has not been thought about people who are in abusive relationships and have an emergency phone hidden, or people who have PTSD.

It is really serious as some of these groups will not be aware of alert or how to switch the settings.

This is genuine concern.

Well unfortunately I have to say I think most are genuine.

Is everything a government conspiracy these days?

It's like

New street lights being put in..

Government are watching us.

Wheelie bin collection day change..

Government conspiracy to control us.

I'm sure some can put a spin on absolutely anything to call it a government cover up.

Didn't they try this warning system a few years back? I think it was O2 or EE were sending out warning text messages, causing 'Much alarm and distress' to those that received the messages and they had to apologize to everyone and claim they were 'testing' the system

Saying that, you didn't say if it's now a bad thing that we're all a bunch of devil worshippers. (Can't believe I even typed that when it's not the 80's!)
