I like walks as part of a date.

I'm not always the best with eye contact and sitting still.

Going for a walk means I can be looking around at the scenery and keep my body in motion which makes me much more comfortable.

Plus if the conversation lulls slightly you can always talk about what's around you.

Other than during covid, which made them awesome, I actually find walking with a stranger annoying but think the difference is I'm an avid walker 6-10 miles daily so not many people get my kind of walking

Yes, absolutely. Dates are usually very formulaic in that people just want to meet for a drink. Some of the best dates I've had have been more activity based.

Things like walking, or bouldering are much better ice breakers than just sitting in a boring bar drinking.

Actually agree with you absolutely with the activity based first meetings if that's how you are as a person and prefer to connect with like minded people

Yeah, I just think its a bit more fun than sitting in a bar. I don't drink which might have some say in this also, but its much more about 'doing something' rather than just sitting there interviewing one another.

I had a walking date on here once which also ended up with us having a bit of a play in the bushes like a couple of teenagers. Fun!

But once you head to them moors no one can hear you scream well sheep can not sure there help. Obviously I'm making light of it but it's all good talking on phone seeing pics but everyone knows it's different in real life a meeting he could be a nutter or her. With a bar can be half hour quick drink go.

Walking is done in public places. So is bouldering.

You're missing the point - which is that bars are not only dull, but also you're way more 'on the spot' in a bar.

That said, I don't have awkward silences with anyone I meet because I can hold down a conversation.

Can't be putting you out of your stride

If you've built up a good rapport with someone then a walk in a reasonably public space is good for a first date. Sometimes easier to talk too than being in a cafe with others earwigging!

Love a walk, I find people talk more freely as they aren't being scrutinised in close proximity across a table. Its more relaxed.

Bonus points if you're coastal in the summer.

I also don't really drink so that's not my bag anyway.

Nobody suggested you'd be anywhere secluded - and your posts seem to allude to a lack of safety or something.

I wouldn't dream of putting anyone in a position that made them feel uncomfortable, and walking is way less confrontational that a drink in a bar.

And less dull.

Remember this will be first time coming face to face, I understand what your saying I do but just me personally seeing someone first time I do a bar it wouldn't be crappy bar with just barman in there. It's like a eating first date meet no way, can you imagine person turn up nothing like pics, and I read few forum posts on here with total disaster first meets, safety has been number 1 priority on 1st meet.

Yes very much so, it is a wonderful opportunity to chat and get to know each other, with appropriate stops in appropriate places for appropriate connections, and I find it very pleasureable with no pressure on either to take it any further - unless both parties decide to ajourn to somewhere warm, dry and private.

I went on a date a few years ago and we discussed the date was to be a walk prior to and it was known to be on a canal towpath so probably muddy at times but she “loved walking”

She turned up in heels and moaned bitterly for half an hour before I called it a day.

I like to wear high heels and get a bit dressed up for first meet so can’t see my walking far like that, more suited to a bar. However I enjoy a walk and do think it would be a nice way to get to know someone, maybe 2nd date
