Mine haven't been. I have the fluffy lined Chelsea boots which were ridiculously comfy from the first wear. The embroidered ones were a bit creaky around the ankles on the first couple of wears but didn't take long and didn't cause any blisters.

You can buy different leather type's now, the soft leather doesn't need breaking in, if you buy the hard leather it's best to buy the doc socks that have two layers or just wear two pairs of socks then they won't rub too much.

I have to wear really thick socks with them or they give me blisters. I only wear them if I know I’m not going to be doing lots of walking but if you break them in properly then I’m sure they’re fine.

Usually get ours from the Dr martens shop in Cardiff but you can get them in the official shop online and sometimes they have really good sale's.

Have been on the website and yes there are some good deals but nothing like as good as the Factory shop.

My Daughter,Son In Law and Grandson have amassed a total of 15 assorted pair of boots and shoes most of which came from the Factory Shop.

Some style's are quite narrow Mr has got a couple of pairs which have been narrow to start off with, the original style 1460s are pretty wide fitting though, pop into a shop and try them on, Schuh are pretty good and their range is expanding every time I go in there.

Definite student footwear that lasts forever. You can wee on them when yer d*unk, puke on em. They take a good battering & buff up well!

I have a shaved head so, I prefer not to wear them & for Obvious reasons & not a student anymore.

Tonypandy.

Have 16 hole black ones, I bought in 1993 when I started uni. They took ages to break in, and still rub on occasion. (Don't wear them that often)

Also have worn the 8 hole docs for years. They are my favourite boots.

Did buy the shoes when working in the bar, and they were so long lasting.

It’s a bit of a myth UK production is/was better, maybe when things were hand made a long time ago it was true, but generally with technology quality is much better overseas.

What constitutes as made in the UK is very misleading too. I have seen the factory that imports uppers, soles and pre-glued ‘hand made in the uk” labels, all three parts come from China in separate boxes then a person simply sticks the three parts together in 30 seconds.
