"She was in every right to ask for the seat she paid for. However depending on just how much extra the window seat was I'd have not bothered too much. If the child being at the window gives them a distraction and everyone else on the plane a peaceful flight then that right there is something you can't put a price on." But she would be in the aisle seat then and if you are near the toilets with people queuing next to you all flight and leaning on your seat back it's not pleasant

"I once boarded a flight and there was a toddler in my seat. I told the cabin crew. She told the mother that the toddler was under two they must sit on her lap as she hadn't paid for an exta seat. It was in Covid times and we were all wearing masks and the mother kept saying it wasn't safe for me to be next to her but the crew told me to sit down. It was a very unpleasant journey with her glaring at me and the toddler kicking me !" horrible!

"I've noticed s trend recently of people taking to social media to have their actions validated. I understand that occasionally we might need to ask friends wwyd? but in a lot if cases it's blindingly obvious to me. Is this one because there's a child involved?" On reddit there's a discussion page called 'Am I the arsehole' ajd a lot of these stories are pinched from there. Because we've somehow reached a point where reporting what is posted on Reddit or TikTok is considered joyrnalism

I can understand some of the quandaries people find themselves in. Even on here though I see people confused over what to me seem perfectly straightforward choices. I'll sometimes ask my mates or Mr N about something I'm not sure how to react to but this is quite clear cut. Isn't it?

"The father could have waited for her to sit down then ask if she could swap with his daughter instead of assuming. " Why would you expect to sit in a seat someone else had paid for? If he really wanted his daughter to have a window seat he should have booked one.

"The airline uses the seat location to help id bodies in the event of a crash. Moving seat can result in the remains being given to the wrong family Morbid I know but stick to your assigned seat. She was right to get the person to move " Given that an airline will never be responsible for a formal ID and neither the Coroner nor police would accept "the chair they were sitting in" as even the vaguest ID, this us completely wrong

"The Age of Entitlement is getting ridiculous. If it wasn't my seat I'd not feel I could help myself to it. Indulging demands from toddlers/infants/children teaches them all the wrong things and will likely just result in some much harder lessons in later life for them when they find out how the world really works. Kindnesses are better offered than demanded anyway." Yes, there seems to be some kind of age of entitlement doesnt it, more so nowadays, yes kindness is the best way

The latter is easily confronted - trying to get that crotch gremlin to shut the fuck up is pot luck. Even worse if people are doing that to the child's seat setting it off.

"The Age of Entitlement is getting ridiculous." So what if you’re in a restaurant and you order a gourmet burger with all the trimmings, steak chips, onion rings, you pay the price for but what you’re served is a pathetic McDonalds - you’d want what you paid for? If the parent in this case wanted their child to have a window seat they should have paid for it, not expected a random stranger to. "We booked seats for me and family from Panama to Amsterdam, we got on board and some Panamanians had simply taken the seats nearest to the exit (where possible) which had happened to be ours. We explained that they were in our seats 'Non Comprende' The Stewardess came to speak to them, Much debate ensued. The First Officer had come down. Another argument, he shook his head and walked back to the Cockpit. The Stewardess Phone rang, she answered and it was the Captain. Turns out they had extra space in first Class. Guess who got 3 first class seats? the Air Crew were fantastic." Panamanians stand their ground then

"... I'm a whisker over 5ft tall and I can't bear any but the shortest of flights in normal seats. At 6ft my partner really struggles. ." That is very interesting. Sometimes I have sat behind people who, although noticeably shorter than me when standing, have blocked my forward view down the cabin with their bonces because they have excessive height from the bum upwards. They enjoy leg room which I struggle to find but my head sits nicely against the headrest and doesn't protrude into the sight line of those behind. As you can tell, I notice a number of oddities. I was going to PM you a wisecrack about language but I am 'Outside your age range'!

"Well i think people insisting on a specific seat on a plane is pretty ridiculous, everyone pays for a seat to travel from A to B you're normally very cramped i had a woman ask me if I'd mind moving recently she was tired and preferred to be out of the way by window so i let her have it but i remember flying long haul one time me and my ex we didn't prebook seats and when we got to airport all seats were allocated so they gave us one seat behind the other in two rows of 3 seats on an 11 hour flight i asked all four of the people travelling on their own if they would mind moving so we could sit together not one of them would move, i asked the cabin crew if they could find us seats together but no so we had no choice. " Yeh everyone pays for a seat on the plane and then people pay extra to sit in a certain place on that plane. You should of stuck your hand in your pocket and booked seats together if you wanted to sit next to each other.

"I read an article about it, did you too? People have flooded to social media in support of a reddit user who asked a girl to move from her pre booked seat in an airplane. Why would people rush to her defense? Because when it comes to airplanes and long haul flights, different seats of rules apply, especially if you have spent extra money pre booking a specific seat. Here is how it went, a 22 year old women boarded a plane only to find a girl sat in her window seat and its fair to say that the father wasnt happy about it when she asked if she could sit there. The woman took to reddit and basically asked if she was in the wrong, it is an 8 to 9 hour flight. "When I got there a child was sitting in my seat and her dad in the middle seat. I looked at the dad and pointed at the window seat saying that I think it is my seat, expecting him to move, he looked st me and said she is a child and pointed at the aisle seat suggesting I take it" The woman moved to the aisle seat, but then messaged her family. The woman initially complied with the dads demand for his daughter to sit there. The passengers dad called her and convinced her to ask for her seat back, because he paid for it and it wasnt a free seat. The girl moved and is sitting in the middle. I am in my seat and I am also sitting back so she can see out the window, her dad has made 1 o 2 snide remarks about me wanting my seat so I just wanted to know, AITA for insisting on sitting in my seat? What is your view about it, was the woman in the right to ask for her seat as she pre booked it? The support on social media was kind of the same as my thinking about it and that is yes, that she was right about it as she have payed for the seat." yes you paid for your seat but was it worth the uncomfort to achieve it, i would have asked initially and if they were being awkward would have sat in the aisle seat to save what ended up being an uncomfortable journey, thats the point, you paid for it you're entitled to it but did you enjoy your journey?
