A woman was praised by asking someone to move seat.

From the land of haribos.

I read an article about it, did you too? People have flooded to social media in support of a reddit user who asked a girl to move from her pre booked seat in an airplane.

Why would people rush to her defense?

Because when it comes to airplanes and long haul flights, different seats of rules apply, especially if you have spent extra money pre booking a specific seat.

Here is how it went, a 22 year old women boarded a plane only to find a girl sat in her window seat and its fair to say that the father wasnt happy about it when she asked if she could sit there.

The woman took to reddit and basically asked if she was in the wrong, it is an 8 to 9 hour flight.

"When I got there a child was sitting in my seat and her dad in the middle seat. I looked at the dad and pointed at the window seat saying that I think it is my seat, expecting him to move, he looked st me and said she is a child and pointed at the aisle seat suggesting I take it"

The woman moved to the aisle seat, but then messaged her family.

The woman initially complied with the dads demand for his daughter to sit there.

The passengers dad called her and convinced her to ask for her seat back, because he paid for it and it wasnt a free seat.

The girl moved and is sitting in the middle. I am in my seat and I am also sitting back so she can see out the window, her dad has made 1 o 2 snide remarks about me wanting my seat so I just wanted to know, AITA for insisting on sitting in my seat?

What is your view about it, was the woman in the right to ask for her seat as she pre booked it? The support on social media was kind of the same as my thinking about it and that is yes, that she was right about it as she have payed for the seat.

We always book a window seat for Mr N and extra leg room for us both. You can be darn sure we'd ask someone to move if they sat in it, even if they were a child.

If the parent in this case wanted their child to have a window seat they should have paid for it, not expected a random stranger to.

She was in the right. The window seat had been paid for so that was her seat. The father of the child is entitled and giving his child the wrong impression of what's right and wrong

The Age of Entitlement is getting ridiculous.

If it wasn't my seat I'd not feel I could help myself to it.

Indulging demands from toddlers/infants/children teaches them all the wrong things and will likely just result in some much harder lessons in later life for them when they find out how the world really works.

Kindnesses are better offered than demanded anyway.

She was in every right to ask for the seat she paid for.

However depending on just how much extra the window seat was I'd have not bothered too much. If the child being at the window gives them a distraction and everyone else on the plane a peaceful flight then that right there is something you can't put a price on.

Not sure the child asked for the seat of the parent just thought they'd put them there. Also I don't know if it was clear the seat was reserved.

Whatever the answer making snide remarks is just impolite

In the event of an accident, the plane's manifest should have all the right people in the allocated seats. She was right to ask for it back.

What seat was on her ticket? Thats the one she has every right to expect on the aircraft…. As someone else Mentioned - the father could have approached it and asked if

It was ok - probably with the desired result. She should have pepper sprayed the father and jabbed a stiletto through his foot then ch*ked him out…then said to the kid - get out my seat unless you want the same!!

But she would be in the aisle seat then and if you are near the toilets with people queuing next to you all flight and leaning on your seat back it's not pleasant

It’s not even a debate. If she has paid extra specifically to sit in a certain seat she is 100% entitled to ask to sit there.

She should have just complained to the staff and can’t believe they would not have agreed with her and asked the father/daughter to move.

She was intitled to her seat yes! But that said I would have let the child have it! The father sounds like he had a shitty attitude! But that's not the child's fault! Me an one of my daughters have booked front seats for our flight in Oct cost more but I would swap might add she wouldn't x

She’s 100% right to demand her seat, it’s been reserved and paid.

But if the Father had been a bit more helpful they could’ve agreed during the flight the child gets to sit in the seat occasionally. During landing or take off and maybe for a brief period of time during the flight so the child could have some access to the window.

Even if you haven't paid any extra for a window seat but asked for and was given it at check in (or on line), then it is yours.

I never tire of looking out of plane windows and being next to it gives me control of the blind.I've got well pissed off when cabin crew have told everyone to pull all the blinds down so 'everyone can see the TV better'.

On one occasion, flying over China I wanted to see as much as possible and hopefully the Great Wall. The cabin staff ordered the closing of the blinds. Every so often I took a peek and during one I spotted a Chinese fighter just off the wing tip. I then realised that it was nothing to do watching TV!

I once boarded a flight and there was a toddler in my seat. I told the cabin crew. She told the mother that the toddler was under two they must sit on her lap as she hadn't paid for an exta seat. It was in Covid times and we were all wearing masks and the mother kept saying it wasn't safe for me to be next to her but the crew told me to sit down. It was a very unpleasant journey with her glaring at me and the toddler kicking me !

I've noticed s trend recently of people taking to social media to have their actions validated. I understand that occasionally we might need to ask friends wwyd? but in a lot if cases it's blindingly obvious to me.

Is this one because there's a child involved?

A woman refused to move her pram and bag from the wheelchair space (that I had pre booked) on a Transport for Wales train on Sunday. I ended up blocking the aisle and unable to turn around. People trod on me, sat on me and someone unclipped my suitcase off the back of my chair, which I didn't realise until I tried to get off and the case fell on the floor. I had to balance it on my knee and chuck it at the ramp operator at Piccadilly.

By the way, when you're on the train in the area opposite the wheelchair spaces and the signage asks for the area to be kept clear, that's because we need that space to manoeuvre in and out of the wheelchair space. If you block it with your suitcase, we cannot get on/off or cannot move to the loo during the cross-country journey.

Fortunately the London trains were quiet both ways and no-one blocked those wheelchair spaces. All pre booked.....

Because we've somehow reached a point where reporting what is posted on Reddit or TikTok is considered joyrnalism

Yeas I've seen that page. I can understand some of the quandaries people find themselves in. Even on here though I see people confused over what to me seem perfectly straightforward choices.

I'll sometimes ask my mates or Mr N about something I'm not sure how to react to but this is quite clear cut. Isn't it?

Well i think people insisting on a specific seat on a plane is pretty ridiculous, everyone pays for a seat to travel from A to B you're normally very cramped i had a woman ask me if I'd mind moving recently she was tired and preferred to be out of the way by window so i let her have it but i remember flying long haul one time me and my ex we didn't prebook seats and when we got to airport all seats were allocated so they gave us one seat behind the other in two rows of 3 seats on an 11 hour flight i asked all four of the people travelling on their own if they would mind moving so we could sit together not one of them would move, i asked the cabin crew if they could find us seats together but no so we had no choice.

Given that an airline will never be responsible for a formal ID and neither the Coroner nor police would accept "the chair they were sitting in" as even the vaguest ID, this us completely wrong

This is true but it does go some way to knowing which bodies are in which part of the plane.

Absolutely agree she did the right thing. Dad reserves the right to ask if she could swap, but not assume. Using the line ‘but she is a child’ is him attempting to absolve himself of a lack of manners.

I always book window seats because I cannot stand being continually asked to move so people can get up. I watch films or read and want to remain undisturbed, especially long haul. This would be particularly relevant with a child and her tiny bladder!

As a previous poster said, sitting next to the aisle also means being bashed by passengers and the drinks trolley. And it’s harder to nod off if you want to.

That's nothing compared to a screaming uncontrolled and bored child. The latter is easily confronted - trying to get that crotch gremlin to shut the fuck up is pot luck. Even worse if people are doing that to the child's seat setting it off.

I used to travel extensively and always booked an aisle seat as I have wide shoulders and a shoulder injury which make the middle or window seats difficult. I must have taken at least 8 flights a month including changes. I would only change a seat if I could go to another aisle. I took the time and occasional expense to book the seat I wanted. Many who want to change just busk it and don’t want to pay to sit together. There should be no pressure on anyone to change.

Its not really at that different from the standard compo face pic fluff pieces "mum of two outraged; child tripped over blade of grass"

I see this happen a lot in long haul economy.

Sine nationalities routinely take the seat they choose , it’s kind of normal , Our culture of paying for a seat is very odd to them and so if you object you need to tell them very directly to move.

I always set my preferences on the airline apps so if flying economy on overnight flights I have a window and daytime flights I have an aisle.

No one takes my seat, no one wakes me up when they need a wee in the night , and I don’t have to bother anyone in the daytime when I want to go to the bar or for a walk.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

I would have gone to one of the members of the cabin crew to turf them out....

To me that's a cabin crew prob! You could sort it pout vicariously through them.

If the plane wasn't busy & there were spare seats then I would have let that slip and moved elsewhere after telling the airline staff what had happened & what I was doing.

In my book it's bad manners to let yer kid do that. The parent should be disciplining. It's also rude....

I would have been polite and asked them to scooch over. If that fell on deaf ears I would have plowed through stepping on feet & told the kid to shift & showed the parent the ticket. Followed by a pulled Joe Lycette face "having a face like a punched quiche!"

If I've paid for something then I get my monies worth. Proof is on the ticket. Does that make me sound like a bad bastard....? Don't care.

Just to set a record straight.... on a North American flight eons ago an Airline person asked would I move seat because a passenger was kicking up a fuss & wanted seating at an end of isle seat. I asked where would I be sitting. she showed me & after a few secs I agreed cos that took the strain off the staff who were busy.

We booked seats for me and family from Panama to Amsterdam, we got on board and some Panamanians had simply taken the seats nearest to the exit (where possible) which had happened to be ours. We explained that they were in our seats 'Non Comprende'

The Stewardess came to speak to them, Much debate ensued. The First Officer had come down. Another argument, he shook his head and walked back to the Cockpit.

The Stewardess Phone rang, she answered and it was the Captain. Turns out they had extra space in first Class. Guess who got 3 first class seats? the Air Crew were fantastic.

The Stewardess came to speak to them, Much debate ensued. The First Officer had come down. Another argument, he shook his head and walked back to the Cockpit.

The Stewardess Phone rang, she answered and it was the Captain. Turns out they had extra space in first Class. Guess who got 3 first class seats? the Air Crew were fantastic."

Panamanians stand their ground then

"We always book a window seat for Mr N and extra leg room for us both. You can be darn sure we'd ask someone to move if they sat in it, even if they were a child.

If the parent in this case wanted their child to have a window seat they should have paid for it, not expected a random stranger to. That is good and yes, it is good with some extra leg room as well and yes, they should of payed for the seat if she wanted to sit there "

If you of paid for it, you should of the right to sit in it. End've!

I think tiny errors in a language that isn't your first are understandable.

I'm a whisker over 5ft tall and I can't bear any but the shortest of flights in normal seats. At 6ft my partner really struggles. .

She did right asking her to move, if the dad had an issue I'd have asked for x £amount that it cost then she can have it.

Self entitelment is rife these days, if you want a specific seat pay.

It says more about modern society as a whole than the lady in question. And she was well within her rights.

That is very interesting. Sometimes I have sat behind people who, although noticeably shorter than me when standing, have blocked my forward view down the cabin with their bonces because they have excessive height from the bum upwards. They enjoy leg room which I struggle to find but my head sits nicely against the headrest and doesn't protrude into the sight line of those behind.

As you can tell, I notice a number of oddities.

I was going to PM you a wisecrack about language but I am 'Outside your age range'!

They would be expected to move for me, or else cabin crew would be called to fix it

I've had a few pressured demands for my seat that I've paid for in advance. I don't do it, for those who wield pressur and have the wrong attitude.

"Well i think people insisting on a specific seat on a plane is pretty ridiculous, everyone pays for a seat to travel from A to B you're normally very cramped i had a woman ask me if I'd mind moving recently she was tired and preferred to be out of the way by window so i let her have it but i remember flying long haul one time me and my ex we didn't prebook seats and when we got to airport all seats were allocated so they gave us one seat behind the other in two rows of 3 seats on an 11 hour flight i asked all four of the people travelling on their own if they would mind moving so we could sit together not one of them would move, i asked the cabin crew if they could find us seats together but no so we had no choice. "

Yeh everyone pays for a seat on the plane and then people pay extra to sit in a certain place on that plane. You should of stuck your hand in your pocket and booked seats together if you wanted to sit next to each other.

Morbid I know but stick to your assigned seat.

She was right to get the person to move "

close.

God.

You’re all going to get to where you want to go.

What’s 8 hours if your life….

Some people can’t even afford a good holiday so for others to be whinging about where they have to sit to get a destination is a 1st world problem…..

If this is the biggest issue you have in life I’d consider you quite lucky.

"I read an article about it, did you too?

The support on social media was kind of the same as my thinking about it and that is yes, that she was right about it as she have payed for the seat."

yes you paid for your seat but was it worth the uncomfort to achieve it, i would have asked initially and if they were being awkward would have sat in the aisle seat to save what ended up being an uncomfortable journey, thats the point, you paid for it you're entitled to it but did you enjoy your journey?

Though dependant on duration of flight I would just said to the father is your kid one of those annoying loud screaming fucks or generally quiet.

If loud and feral would give them the seat for my own sanity and then complain to airline after .
