I'm off to Butlins on a friend stag do this weekend to say I'm not looking forward to it is an understatement. I know I need to get over myself but the idea of a load of pissed up people looking for a fight isn't my idea of fun. I guess there is also an element that I'm out of my comfort zone. Any tips on how not to come across apprehensive and bored and am I the only person who feels this way about stag weekend?

Where the flamboyance of flamingos live

My experience of going on butlins weekends have been loads of people pissed up, a crammed bar, very load and weird people offering you drugs. Then there’s the guys who want to just grab any pussy they can and shag their way through the weekend.

Been loads of times and it’s just not my cup of tea anymore. Hope you have a great time x

Not just you. Used to have it before stags dependent on the friends going. And also worked as a currency trader years back and any work event or trip abroad would be a mess before they began.

I went with if you can't beat them join them. I don't know your friends but you posted this and you're going to butlins so I assume if you try and be sensible and not over do it you'll get called a melt and made yto down 4 Stella's.

Go hard or go home (don't go)

Don't go .. simple..it seems to me by your thread you are going just to please others..the question is will you be missed ? ..it is of course up to yourself but if it was me feeling like that l wouldn't go .

Carlisle usually

My experience of butlins weekenders is just an all out fuckfest.

I've never seen so many swingers in one place.

But if it's not your scene, don't go.

I enjoy it there , I've been a few times hardly see any trouble if any, some decent acts , plenty of beer and if you're lucky you'll get abit of finger blasting in

I’ve got to admit I’ve never been to a Butlins - or a Centre Parks for that matter. Sheltered life…

We’ve been a couple of weekends at Butlins and we’ve not seen any trouble - everyone was just out for a laugh and a good time. They were Ministry of Sound weekenders and

I wouldn’t go if I was you and you clearly don’t want to go. If I was the stag I’d want only people that want to celebrate with me to go, not someone who desparately doesn’t want to be there.

If it's a good friend then I'd go just to show my face. I would have a few drinks and let them know it isn't my cup of tea then leave. You could end up having a better time than you think and stay on. But you shouldn't feel pressured into staying all night. You're a grown man.

If I wasnt particularly close to the man having the stag I'd stay home.

Horrible place but on the plus side I know someone that works there. And she’s a swinger.

I (Steve) only learned last year that the little tab on the cellophane wrapper of a packet of cigarettes is always in the same place!

Pretty sure the only fight you'll get in at Butlins is someone not doing the cha cha slide correctly.

Either go and try to enjoy it or come down with a diplomatic bout of gastro enteritis the day before.

Don't go. I've never been on a stag do and never will, just mot my thing.

And I wouldn't do something that made me so unhappy.

I'd be honest about my reasons though

If you are going to be miserable when you go then don’t. Don’t ruin the atmosphere by sitting there being bored.

Either make the most of it and join in or don’t put yourself through it.

I get it. Some stag parties are a bit too OTT for my liking, but I always think the groom comes first. If the stag's a good friend, I'd want to be there for him, even if the venue/activity isn't what I'd choose, as I think we sometimes have to put our preferences aside for our friends. My advice would be to find people in the group you like most and stick with them. At the end of the day, it's just a short weekend: focus on the cheesy music or whatever and just enjoy it for what it is, but you don't need to drink too much and just sit out of any activities you don't like.

Is the stag a good friend of yours? If you really don't fancy it, don't go, but I guess you need to weigh up how much that would affect your friendship with the groom.
