Where and When ? Objectification

Where and When , let's just start with the UK for now, should we overlook conversations that reduce a human being to little more than an object?

Is it okay to turn a blind eye in a public arena or should we speak out ?

I think this is going to be a tough crowd for this thread, Granny. But I applaud it all the same.

Can we start with getting rid of the Jacqueline Jossa threads?

I don't think we should overlook the objectification of people. It's extremely tiring challenging it though.

I notice we need t.v. adverts telling people not to do it now

When we are in a site that is focused in occasional meets, nsa and so on, it’s all about being objectified …

Is it though? Even people who aren't on here?

We should speak out.

People, well men mainly meed to realise thst its not okay.

Some of the threads on these forums ast year about Liz Truss in (and also about many other women in the public eye) that appear on here were horrendous. Though the amount of men in those threads who used sex as a form of violence and punishment were probably more disturbing than the objectification.

It's utterly depressing to witness as a man and I suspect even more so for women

Even if I agreed with that (and I really don't), it misses the point that the women on here are making a choice, in your opinion, that leaves them open to being objectified, where as women going about their every day business really don’t.

I see examples of men being objectified too.

In some ways Matt Hancock and Chris Whitty were objectified when they were 'jostled' in public and many single men on here are too

The dot in the i

If someone wants to feel objectified that’s fine, others don’t want to be and shouldn’t be shamed for speaking up and saying no

I agree. It's not gender specific.

As it's illegal in work , on the street and in other areas to verbalise sexual violence toward people and it is recognised that to continually speak of people in those terms, even out of ear shot, has a detrimental effect on how people view each other - both the person expressing their sexual or violent desires and the person who never solicited any of it..

Our thoughts do form our beliefs and both form our actions.......

I don't think it's ever warranted or ever 'a bit of fun'

I'd agree that it's mostly about appearing sexually attractive when we want to but even on swinging sites there is more to life than ' group thinking and vocalising' unsolicited sex acts.

Oof. I have a hard disagree with that one.

Being sex positive and open about what you want does not give people the right to treat you like some sort of sexual vending machine and objectify the way too many do on here.

But you're a woman, of course they're going to think you're an overemotional vending machine without agency

I once heard a group of young 'men' (I use the term loosely) talking about some women they knew. A phrase that sticks in my mind some twenty years later is one of them saying

"I'd pull their knickers down and shag them"

All his cronies agreed and laughed.

I dropped my daughter off to a gig last weekend. She had to walk a short distance from where I dropped her to the location. A group of young men came out of a side street onto the road she was on. She told me that the ranged from calling her an Emo to shouting what they'd do to her - smash her, etc. She didn't know them. They didn't know her, yet they thought it was ok to discuss, loudly and in public, what they would do with her.

It seems we are a long way from respecting each other as people, irrespective of gender.

Not really Rex. YES we all want attention but we can choose whether we want sexual attention or not.

I was talking more about groups that get together and talk about what they'd do to an individual if they could.... and they talk about them as if they are 'less than' ....

Nice nob btw.

No it isn't...And just because we use this site it doesn't give others the right to be disrespectful. I embrace my sexuality and celebrate that...

And yes, I call it out.

I will call it out whether I see it here or elsewhere.
