The family of a mixed race man were given the code word 'Banana' by the police to access hospital visits. Now the Chief of Police is sending his internal affairs people to investigate. Is the codeword and use of Banana a racialist issue. It's all over the news

Why are the police giving out passwords to hospitals…and why do they not have to use a minimum of 8 characters with a capital, number and special character like every other bloody password I’m asked for?

People are being murdered every day in the Ukraine. Properties, farms and produce ‘taken’. ( Fab won’t let us use the Sto_len ‘ word)- oh no, another offensive word! Innocent hard working people and children be killed by a dictator - and we’re pouring in resources, which will no doubt cost hundreds of thousands of pounds in lost man ( opps person hours- nearly offended some more people there), because a ‘ word’ might of ‘offended’ someone.

If we’re ‘invaded’ by the Russians , we mustn’t call them the ‘Reds’ or they might be offended too !

Depends if you assign a racist connotation to it in most cases. For example a US university has band the use of the word field (as in what field of work are you interest in?) as they feel it culturally insensitive to American sl****y. However it does sound an odd code name to give them in this instance when they could have just given them something like Eco,Romeo as a simple example. Probably was just lack of awareness but who knows with the police now and peoples super sensitivity

Really! You have to ask that question. Everyone has been hinting all the way through this thread with sarcasm included for good measure.

I'll spell it out incase anyone else doesn't realise.

It is a hundred percentage racist!

If I have to explain why, then there is no hope and is probably one of the reason why the UK left the EU, wants to block borders from immigrants and change all the laws which protect basic human rights...

Thankfully I live in Scotland and much as we are a shower of wanks. At least we admit it, are a trying to change and want to be inclusive to all.

When Tom served in the army they had code words beginning from A to Z and would use things like fruit or animals. So we had Op Apple Op Banana and Op Carrot for example.

It got tricky when they got to animals as nobody cold think of an animal beginning with the letter A.
