Beth Mead or Ben Stokes..they have both won a major tournament. Ben Stokes has had arguably the more successful year.

I hope the Ladies football team and the cricketers pick up a lot of awards.

Congrats to all nominees.

Yeah I've heard of the Gadirova twins, watched them on TV about 4 years ago now it seems. I'm not even into gymnastics.

They represent GB and England.

The UK is full of sports stars not born in the UK but who have chosen to represent us and go through all that training to win for us along with the sacrifice they need to make

My take on this.

It really should be someone who has performed at their peak of their sport.

For most sports that would be Olympic gold. Not so for Football, Boxing, Cricket, Tennis and Golf.

Winning a World Cup (even in Cricket) is the pinnacle of the sport.

Winning the Euros isn’t. However, what that win has done for Women’s football brings it up there.

My thoughts would be

3. Women’s Football

2. Men’s Cricket Winners

1. Eve Muirhead because of her Olympic Gold and as she is retiring.

Harry Kane just so that we can still talk about 1966 and to also stop the press from going on and on about winning the WC 6 months after the final.

Can you imagine the coverage on the news, papers and Morning shows if we did win?

Holly and Phillip would be at the final lifting the Trophy.

No one cares about curling.

The England win in the Euros was a true team effort.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is really quite boring now.

No idea who Jake Wightman is.

So Stokes or Gadirova for me, probably Stokes as he is actually an interesting character.

I reckon it'll be a woman though. The BBC have suddenly woken up to womens sport and having a hard push on it.surprised Laura muir or keely hodgkinson hasn't had a mention. Or the men's relay team.

Worth remembering it was only 5 years ago bbc were cheer leading Stokes to be hung drawn and quartered for kicking the crap out of a couple of homophobes beating up another guy... Though of course that's not how it was reported.

Have you been on the pop or are you pulling our legs with this!

He's bang average at best & as for instrumental - if he never played for them again they wouldn't miss him, I mean just 20 odd prem appearances last year (including those coming on as a sub) is hardly instrumental - more handy utility forward...

The BBC struck gold with women’s football, there’s genuine interest in it which is great, it’s evolving all the time, it’s fun. But don’t get it twisted it’s currently a much lower level than the top end of the men’s game

I've been out so didn't see the show, seen the results though. No complaints for me.

The England ladies football team winning The Euros put an extra thousand bums on seats in Welsh ladies football, not only have they inspired their country, they have inspired young girls in someone else's too. Quite an achievement that. Possibly the same in Scotland too. Well done The Lionesses

The thought of a female footballer winning this only a decade ago would of been unheard of. Well done Beth Mead.

You never hear a bad word about any of these ladies and they deserve every bit of praise including the manager
