You know what's funny?

His column was in The Sun.

THE SUN. It's THE definition of a red top outrage tabloid in British print journalism.

What were people expecting to be published in such tabloids? Sense and reason? Good taste and humour? Outrage like what's been stirred literally sells the red tops out. No such thing as bad press for them (until they start tapping mobile phones and landlines). You can literally imagine the editor of The Sun dialling up Clarkson and going "hey mate, Harry and Meghan just came up with a huge new Netflix documentary spilling lots of tea and slinging lots of mud at the monarchy, fancy throwing some red meat for the readers in your next column on it?".

And the part of his column people took so much offence to was a scene lifted straight from Game Of Thrones. Yet when that very scene aired, NOBODY pitied Lena Headey or the fictional character of Cersei Lannister. Game Of Thrones is known as a TV series that has had a problematic history with sexual objectification and violence towards women. To the point that the subsequent House Of The Dragon series took great care NOT to depict sexual objectification and violence against women on screen anywhere CLOSE to what GOT did.

Yet the Walk Of Shame was NOT something anybody objected to when it aired.

So he makes an off taste application of that scene as a joke in his meat-for-the-lions column in a red top tabloid, and everyone loses their collective minds because a fictional depiction of a woman publicly stripped, shamed, and pelted through the streets straight from real life medieval times suddenly got superimposed on the ramblings of a old man shouting at the clouds of unprecedented acceptance and integration of interracial marriages and relationships in real life Britain?

What else were people expecting from The Sun? Or Jeremy Clarkson? The day either party loses the ability to grab anybody's attention in British society is the day they lose their entire purpose of existence. The reason why both of them and such rhetoric exist is precisely because there ARE still people in society that hold these very same toxic sentiments and feed such hatred in public discourse.

People getting mad at Clarkson are missing the point. He's not the one you should be outraged at. Neither is The Sun. It's that bit of British society that still pays attention and outright supports/believes in hateful bigotry that should be castigated, for they have no place in modern day human society where there's supposed to be equality of the sexes and race.

Having read some of the quotes, I feel like they weren't meant to be taken seriously but the fact he even had the thought of putting them into words that some people relate to is a sad indictment of those people in general. They live to find outrage and the fact they have so much vile and venom towards people they've never met is honestly quite sad.

I enjoyed Clarkson for many years on Top Gear, but the show went off the boil at the end.

His farming programme was very good at highlighting the issues farmers in this country face.

I once read that the most successful TV presenters need a 50/50 mix of love and loathing towards them, to keep them in the public eye. Clarkson has that nailed.

When I read this article online, I realised that he was referring to GOT. What I don't get is his "teeth clenching hatred" towards Meghan. I'm not a fan of her, but she wouldn't keep me awake at night worrying about her.

He has nurtured his image as being controversial. I think he was being controversial for the sake of it in this column, and it was a dumbass thing to write. And if he truly meant it, he needs to take a long look at himself.

Normal people might dislike (and that dislike may occasionally extend into hatred) people for what they have done. If you hate Mirah Hindley it's for what she's done, not her fashion sense. If you hate Rose West it's for what she's done, not her views own fracking and local politics. Unless you are horribly sexist and racist, the only reason to hate someone MORE than a disgusting serial killer is that they've done worse things.
