"Does anybody know, if / when you apply for your next job, if that sort of history needs to be disclosed.? Trouble is, if that is the case, regardless of the fact the people in the room and the company's response were very wrong... Does it stick with her forever to her disadvantage? " It's not sonething you have to disclose, but you may need to in order to explain a gap in employment or why you resigned from the job.

"Many years ago, one of the chefs at the hotel thought it would be 'funny' to grab my arse as he squeezed past me. Gave him 1 warning, he did it again I hit him in the face with a heavy frying pan and broke his nose. " Probably not the recommended course of action

"I think the way the company reacted says alot about them & the way they treat staff." What's hard to believe (and not suggesting it didn't happen) is that none of the other staff members a tthe meeting thought there was anything wrong with the behaviour, or they'd have backed he up. Shows mob behaviour and mentality.

"I'm surprised at the amount awarded. I'm not surprised it happened. Yeah this. How the hell did she get such a high settlement!?" Is that all you take from it? She was awarded what the tribunal decided, she didn't ask for a specific sum. That's how tribunals work. It would look at things like lost wages, inconvenience and time taken in attending meetings/hearings to resolve and an award for injury to feelings/distress caused. She deserves every penny. Behaviour as described in the article is abhorrent and businesses that encourage or allow it SHOULD be hauled over the coals.

"When I first left school I got a Saturday job working in a bakery which was predominantly women who thought it was funny to try and embarrass me and the 3 lads of a similar age with questions like are you still a virgin etc etc to be honest I laughed it if I was also flashed at she had just had a boob job and thought it was ok to whip them out in the canteen to show the other lady’s wasn’t bothered that we where sat in there imagine a bloke lobbing his cock out in front of women but i suppose back then stuff like that went on all over maybe I could put a claim in some of the things I heard and what they thought of their husbands it was certainly an eye opener " That behaviour wasn't acceptable either and I certainly wouldn't expect anything like that to occur. I know such behaviour would have a very dim view taken of it at my workplace. Ditto slapping people with rulers etc. Both utterly unacceptable.

" it was the mid 90s and was probably the norm in most workplaces for both male and female but looking back it does make you think did I feel violated? No but I’d imagine a young lady in the same environment I was in with males would of been quite daunting the sad thing is it seems we haven’t really moved on when it comes to workplace behaving

"Is that all you take from it?" From the OP and skimming the comments? Yeah, pretty much. "She was awarded what the tribunal decided, she didn't ask for a specific sum. That's how tribunals work. It would look at things like lost wages, inconvenience and time taken in attending meetings/hearings to resolve and an award for injury to feelings/distress caused." Never said she asked for anything. And actually, it's my own personal experience with employment tribunals and the claims court system that factors into my surprise at the amount awarded here. "She deserves every penny. Behaviour as described in the article is abhorrent and businesses that encourage or allow it SHOULD be hauled over the coals." Again, not having followed the actual link I'm happy to take your and the other comments word for it and agree here. I never suggested otherwise.

"In my first job when I was 16 yrs old I would get my arse slapped as I was bent over filing, as my boss went past me in his wheelchair. It's just what happened. I never felt violated or upset by it though. People's perceptions have changed a lot over the years." That's good for you but it doesn't mean that it's ok for men to sexually assault all women just because some like it!

Imagine sending you’re 16 yr old into an environment like that but good job I’m male so it doesn’t matter I suppose? So was it ok for the women I mentioned to behave the way they did ?

"lets be very very clear here Sexual harassment is not a one gender problem .. in the company i run there are 327 staff in the 7 years ive been running it ive only had to deal with 2 Sexual harassment complaints and both have been against women ... now only 62 staff are male so men are the minority " This is true. In my time I’ve seen more inappropriate behaviour towards men than I have towards women on nights out. Touching, bum slapping, inappropriate comments etc. men seem to accept it whilst probably really embarrassed and cringing inside. They shouldn’t have to. Don’t know anything about this case in the op btw as haven’t read anything but you’re correct in your comment for sure.

But all people should be able to go about their work without feeling or the threat of assault....and in an ideal world, be supported by their boss, in the event they need it.

I’m saying in my experience I’ve seen it more. But I’m sure we all have different ideas of what is and isn’t appropriate.
