That's pounds

£5234 paid to an agency to pay for a doctor to cover a shift. Admittedly the most paid by one trust.

What's going on here guys.

That wont have been a doctor it will have been a specialist consultant or surgeon.

It's still a huge amount but they will have been paying for specialist knowledge

Also Tom, never ever look at what a doctor charges for reports or in particular those that provide expert witness statements, because that can be really crazy money!

There are thousand of doctors but literally only one Messi or Maradonna or Pele or Cruyff.

Those footballers are worth every penny.

ahhhh yes but only 4 of them and it's a skill that only has a shelf life of 20 years a Dr who earns far less than the giants of football can go on for a lifetime

That’s insane , nearly as much as my annual premium!

What’s going on here is unions. A few years ago at the Tory conference hunt announced plans to end this via giving staff the ability to take extra shifts more flexibly and to be paid for them to reduce use of agencies .

Of course they would need to set up a Ltd company or lose half in tax and NI but the unions all said no , far too clever and solution focused for them.

So the agencies fleece tax payer of something like £11bn a year because someone has to find and pay staff willing to work extra shifts and the hospitals can’t or won’t

Aren't the army already pencilled in for driving ambulances and manning Border Control? They might not have much time for performing complex surgery too.

I’d trust an army medic more than the NHS, fast, no admin,,swig of whisky for the pain. They wouldn’t stand around chatting with a room full of sick people like A&E

The agency will have taken a huge cut of that money.

That's capitalism for you. Business's are just out to make money, that's the sole reason they are involved with the NHS.
