It’s there for a physiological reason and really only needs to be removed for medical reasons. The removal of the foreskin on cultural or religious grounds is, in my opinion, mutilation.

Sure, if you've got a medical problem that is solved with circumcision then it should make it better but since most of the nerves in the penis are in the foreskin, there is a downside to removing it as well. Ok some facts

The glans of the penis has most of the receptors to stimulate the prostate gland.

The foreskin is designed to protect the glans from damage or trauma.

Washing with soap is probably not a good idea as there could be a reaction and cause a yeast infection. The glans need certain bacteria to keep the ph balance.

Drying after washing is very important.

Our creator is the greatest engineer of all time and therefore see no reason to tamper with his/her design. In fact, the only reason I believe circumcision to be beneficial would be because of a medical reasons for men who suffer from having a tight foreskin (phimosis). Anyway, each to their own...!

My preference is always with not tight foreskin, & someone who takes pride in maintaining good standards personal hygiene...!

Those who get circumcised as an adult normally do it because they've had problems with it...

It's not more hygienic like people say. Clearly nature intended us to have one so I say for that reason better to have one but if you need it cut then not the end of the world.

It has been proven to have little effect. Makes it less sensitive but apparently last longer on average so depends what you value more.

After a rather painful incident, i had to have my foreskin removed about 5yrs ago. From my own experience, when I had foreskin i didn't last as along as I can now. The feeling is different as there's nothing rolling up and down around the head which has reduced the sensations abit BUT oral is so much better as i can feel the tongue more where the old banjo string used to be connected and it's great. So for me personally, I'm happy about being circumsized and i don't miss my foreskin one bit.

Actually, as I just had a meeting cancelled, I have got things to add that haven't already been said

Tackling religion first, we have to remember that all religious dogma was essentially laid out originally as formalising a cultures traditions and beliefs, and at worst they come from here-say, received wisdom and anecdotes. For example:

-- Muslims believe you should not stop running water which is why today you still won't find a plug in the sinks in Muslim countries - this is because standing water means typhoid in hot countries. But that original reason was not understood at the time even though we get it now, but the belief remains and it doesn't really make a lot of sense in todays world but it's too ingrained to change.

-- The same thing is likely true of circumcision. Maybe the bloke (inevitable it was a bloke) who wrote that bit had had to have one, ergo he said the rest should too. Maybe at the time there had been a spate of dick related health problems in the immediate vicinity, maybe the rabbi was part of a family with hereditary tight foreskins. Either way, the reasons are lost other than we know than it wasn't just made up (OK guys, new religion, what do we believe? Err, how about we should take a knife to willies? Great idea, now what about.. etc) but there was something that caused it to become the norm, even if that something was quite isolated or spurious. Performing this procedure on the 8th day after birth starts to tie it into the sort of ceremonial fabric of the religion such that it can never be unpicked. (side note: Anyone ever read Ghomenghast? If so, you'll recognise this sort of thing)

I'm leaving aside the whole "whether this should still be allowed thing"

Next up, the medical benefits. As above, I am sure that then as now there were people who needed medical intervention, and others have listed clearly the medical benefits that can be afforded, and there are some that are valid and real - though I suspect the removal, of pain was the only one that was originally considered important as the rest weren't understood due to lack of science. Parts of the body are sub optimally designed, it's true. The appendix. Men's prostates, and possibly on more men than that would show it was a mere oddity or outliers, foreskins. But we also know, that doing anything medical from a preventative perspective needs to be weighed up so that it's commensurate with the benefits. Clearly lopping off one on someone who needs it is worth it. But how many people a year need one medically (as a percentage, not just anecdotally?). Not that many. Obviously some, and som on this thread, but generally Chances are that you need to be say 12+ and starting to get erections for the first time to know there is even an issue, you certainly can't predict at 8 days. Apparently 20% of UK males are circumcised, but only about .5% are Jewish, so there is a big gap where we can probably say the VAST majority are not performed for religious reasons in this country, which was interesting to me when I googled all that.

Lastly fun! Simply not having, or having, a foreskin can't really change much of your sexual experience to the point where you would choose one over the other. There are already so many variables, physically and mentally between each and every one of us, that whipping the foreskin off a lights out missionary guy isn't gonna have him on the internet ordering a spreader bar, nor the opposite. It's crazy to say it.

TLDR: There was a reason it became a tradition thing, that reason is lost to time, but you can still do it electively or due to medical need but there's no real argument for it being the default, and it won't change your fucking either way.

It is this that I feel where they say that circumcision can help prevent STI as there is less risk of direct infection through effectively an open wound.

For me life is far better for having it done, but that was because it needed doing.
