Dyslexia - has it improved?

I think mine did. And I do thank a predictive phone for it. I’ve learned which button order to press to bring up the correct spelling.

But pen and paper? I have lots of crossings out as I notice I’ve spelt it wrong after I wrote it, but at the time, I think I’m spelling it correctly. It’s wierd.

But predictive texting, touch sensitive phone keboards and clumsy fingers certainly makes me look it a lot of the time.....

My brother has been dyslexic all his life but its never held him back

Only issue I have is him texting me

It's either very short or he uses the speaker function to say his message and send as text, but sometimes you have to sit for a minute and try to work out what he actually meant before the software decided what it types is what it heard lol

My brother's dyslexic, predictive text hasn't helped him because he's got no idea how a word should look. He can write and type in a way that's understandable though even if the spelling is somewhat creative .

He is an extremely skilled craftsman who is much sought after.

That is me, I have dyslexia and when I write or type, my grammatical errors are awful. I use a grammarally on my phone and laptop and it's makes such a difference. More importantly, I have never let my dyslexia stop me, I have achieved 2 two degrees so anything is possible.

La la land

Mine has improved vastly over the years. But it's because I tend to quite formulaic with what I write in work.

It tends to catch me out in fast paced conversations. And I still get the, I know what I want to write but my spelling is so bad predictive text doesn't work, so I have to start again.

One of my friends is the same, the structure and spelling if words is completely random but always makes sense

I don’t think my Dyslexia has got better I think I have developed skills and tools to try and work around it predictive text helps hide a lot of my spelling errors but if I go too fast I will still miss out words or use the wrong ones. I use word when I’m on my laptop to type out messages before I post them here to try and eliminate any mistakes as I’m always worried about the grammar police.

When I was in school never heard of it I was great at maths but slow learning read then suddenly 7 or 8 could read anything but spelling grammar still bad . Spell check and smart phone best thing ever. I can talk one person fine but stand up make speech I say about 3 words even when tried writing speech etc

As a kid I suffered very badly and was held back a year in junior school before skipping the final year and going in to secondary school. Spelling and reading issues got better the older I became, my wife can spot when I'm warn out as it has a direct effect on my ability to read, write and convey things.

This is how Dyslexia affects me also, texting and messaging is fine but ask me to handwrite and it's shocking.

I also get confused with numbers sometimes, not badly but I do have to take my time with it

For sure! I have no spelling mistakes, I have only had to write the text once, and can easily edit it when I write nonsense. I have reread it several times to make sure, and having written this I may need a little lie down. It is a pain in the arse sometimes but I wouldn’t give up the the strengths in other forms of intelligent that I have being Dyslexic.

Somebody literate is going to pick up my errors now aren’t them!

IT has certainly helped me, such as Global Autocorrect, Sonocent, and Read and Write Gold through uni, gaining 2 degrees. Not to mention, extra time in exams and extensions to level up the playing field. An achievement I thought I could never achieve, after being told I couldn’t.

Also through time and experience, I’ve identified my strengths and weaknesses, e.g. I have a brilliant long term memory and recall, but a bad short term memory. And, as mentioned above, developed skills and processes to problem solve where I find times challenging.

Not only writing, but dyslexia can also affect verbal and oral processing skills. Sometimes, when people talk to me, it’s sounds all mumbo jumbo to me. I also have trouble pronouncing all of the syllables in words. I understand people try to help me by repeating the word back, but it’s a waste of time, as I soon forget how to later.
