Out From My Brain Is Where I Bleed!

(RHCP - Soul To Squeeze)

I suffer with anxiety and depression and it took me a long time to recognise my triggers. Do you also suffer and have identified your triggers? Not easy! But once you find them then you can try and avoid them or if unavoidable then learn to mange it.

My trigger was staying in same place too long, same job and when I know what's happening the next day/week/month or even year! I hate knowing what's happening. So I gave up everything and decided to backpack. I just go with the flow now and take each day as they come. I love not knowing where I'll sleep or where I'll be the next day! This is my medication and happy life. Since leaving UK I have hardly suffered and I take no medication at all. Smoke some now and then but only in Countries where it's legal... well, sometimes

Not all that North of North London

I suffer massively with anxiety. Used to use alcohol ti self medicate, but after I got sober the anxiety got worse. Finally unpicking it now following an ASD diagnosis. Recognising that my brain doesn't work like most people's and that the anxiety was usually a response to that has been a game changer

Not brave really as I'll never meet anyine from here probably.

Yes you can Change your mood and be happy. It very hard to do but once you find what makes you miserable then that's a step in the right direction.

Thank you and I hope you're well xx

You might be interested in the book 'Asperger Syndrome and Alcohol: Drinking to Cope'

I know you're sober now, but thought you still might find it interesting.

And I agree. Trying to live, think and socialise like a neurotypical eventually caused me to have a

breakdown. It was just exhausting.

I think it's always brave to share, there is a stigma to mental health. It's important to keep the conversations going

Sorry to hear that and now you know you can learn to live with it... or try. Are there certain things in your life that trigger an episode? I've only read a little about ASD so not an expert but like you said recognising it's something medical and not you then at least you can't beat yourself up about it. Wondering why you act the way you do.

I've never been diagnosed with anything more than depression but my brian don't work normal. Well, look at how I live! I'm far from normal. To live outside in a tent from place to place seems very strange to most people! But I love it, so much better for me than living in a house with a job and family. That's just not me. Or maybe I am normal and everyone else are the ones messed up?

Stay strong mate and I hope you figure everything out. Don't be afraid to PM me if you need to chat. I've been through so much shit in my life, if I can help I will.

Is there still a stigma? Thought that passed! I don't much attention to stigmas or rules etc. I've washed my hands with giving a shit (maybe could rephrase that better lol) So not up to date with stigmas lol.

But yeah not many people do talk about it for fear of being judged but I think you should be at ease with it and except it. It's not your fault and it's nothing you be done. Just wired differently, I've put myself through a lot through the years as I wasn't happy but this life is the life for me for sure!

I think it's safe to say most people in this day, suffer from some form of anxiety. I get it alot, but my problem is I never really know the trigger, and as a result I often get really bad leg cramps because of all the tension.

But I will say, having spent the past 2 months in the States, backpacking and meeting new people and just generally getting away from the familiarity of normal life, my anxiety and cramps have all but dissapeared, so it might very well be the UK and/or the routine I have at home that's giving me these issues.

Thanks for sharing OP

Yeah of course! The majority of people have some sort of anxiety, bit surprising the way the world has been the last... Too long!!!!

Like I said finding the triggers is hard. Make a note of what you was doing when you get an episode... or like me it may be daily routines and the settled life. It's amazing you're in th3 states or been to the states backpacking! And that your anxiety and cramps has disappeared. Maybe listen to your body and travel more often of do it as a lifestyle. Never to late! I was 41 when I started backpacking. I've moved around all my life around UK working and living in hotels etc. Been street homeless many times too, been in long term relationships, they had kids, work, bills etc...

I actually felt better on the streets. I hate responsibility! Some may find that offensive? Who cares?! Paying bills, working.. you know the 'I have to dos', that's a trigger for me. When I HAVE to do it. Now, I don't HAVE to do anything! I do things because I WANT to do it. It did take a while to spend all day in my tent chilling by a lake, river or beach and not feel guilty I've done fuck all all day, but it's what I wanted to do so it wasn't a waste!

Again, feel free to PM me and we can chat more. Think we have a lot in common.

Oh that looks an interesting read, I kinda think I've figured out where alcohol sits with my Autism but I think a better understanding would possibly give me sone more closure. I struggle to reconcile the years I was drinking

Thank you

Hi OP, thank you for sharing your experiences. It takes a lot of courage and strength to show your vulnerable side.Ita great to hear you've identified causes of your pain and that you've also got solutions. You seem to have found new purpose in your life which I think has helped you.

Can't you just try and forget whatever's happened in the past? It's in the past so it done! Look towards the future now and give yourself a fresh start.

De nada! It took a lot of wrong ways to find the right way buy it was worth the effort! Yeah I've found my happy life now, people think it's easy but it's challenging which is good. My only purpose now is to just... BE!

Hope you're well!
