Just curious……

When you read other Bios, some clearly state about not saying “Hi” and asking various questions?

For me, saying “Hi” is a normal everyday phrase and polite. How do others feel about this?

I like to effuse the written equivalent of doth'ing my hat, shaking her hands and offering a "how do you do" and "pleased to meet you". It's far more civil.

An unimaginative "Hi" will close any possible doors that were already open to you.

I agree 'Hi' is a normal everyday phrase and perfectly polite.

It's also, in the context of this site incredibly lazy, the bare minimum of a message that puts the onus on the recipient to start a conversation because 'Hi' says nothing of interest, its not engaging and gives no reason to reply

Unless you're already on my radar (hotlisted, fancied you from the forums etc), you saying hi does nothing for me. It puts all the effort on me. I have to then look at your profile, find something that interests me and I have to start a proper conversation. It feels lazy. If you have the most amazing profile it might be ok, otherwise I'd take a glance and most likely delete it.

I think theres too much emphasis on the content of a message. If I get a hi or hi how are you, I respond in kind. Far rather have a hi than the stuff some guys and couples think is acceptable.

Initial Messages I've had that have been lengthy usually seem like copy n paste with my username added, one was talking to a couple lol he'd forgot to edit that part so yeah.... Hi how are you is fine by me

I once got a copy and paste message that was clearly meant for a man not a woman lol

Hi.

I suggest that those people are wanting more than just a "Hi", and that they don't have a particular sting feeling for it's inclusion in an otherwise larger missive with more meaningful content also included.

Hi is normal and every day in real life. If you're on a site where you know 80% of messages say "hi" or "how're u" it's reasonable to make a little effort. It does no-one any favours as it's personality free and leads to a boring conversation online.

Generic Hi/how're you/what you up to (browsing fab obv, you can see I'm online) are automatically deleted by me without even opening, for reasons already given on here. I like messages where people open talking about themselves or conversation starters.
