A sport you cannot watch

Jump to newest

By *awpleasure OP   Man

Sutton Coldfield

This question is only for people who watch at least ONE sport whether it be live or on TV.

I watch football, cricket, snooker and horse racing mostly but a few of my mates love American Football.

I can't abide it, to me it's nonsense.

Is there a sport you could never watch?

Great question.

If not watch the horses on TV.

Other than that I'm struggling.

There are some sports I'd make an effort to watch ... But not much I'd proactively turn off coz I don't like it.

I’ll get you a link for example to last year’s Michigan State vs Michigan game… and all the traditions around it….

Then I’ll get you a link the the rose bowl game… doesn’t matter which year, for some reason they all tend to be epic! I waited 25 years for Michigan State to get there! It happened to be the 100th rose bowl game… I cried like a baby!!!!

Women's football and rugby... Not particularly because of what happens on the pitch... Which sometimes is OK.. But because of the dire coverage and the amount of smoke that gets blown up its arse.

Oh that and some of the wanky Olympic demo sports like skateboarding and windsurfing...

"I expect a backlash for this but here goes.... professional womens football. I'd rather just watch a non league or Sunday pub team play. Same quality.

Brother the Lioness sisters gonna find your arse and teat another right along side!

It’s coming home!

Nah, we can't be faffed. Some of us will just get on and enjoy our football, irrespective of the gender of the players.

Good luck to them. It's the way it's being rammed down our throats ( great phrase for on here. eh ? ) that bugs me.thats all.

"

Agree with you there mate. The coverage is what kills it for me too. And the fact its treated like the holy Koran, in that nobody is ever allowed to suggest they don't like it or a pox will be visited upon them.

It’s called being able to accept that sport is for everyone to participate support and enjoy. Perhaps you are just a dinosaur?"

And there's the perfect example... He hasn't said that nobody can participate or enjoy, just that he doesn't enjoy watching it and explained why. And yet somebody chooses to insult him for expressing an opinion he was asked for.

Any blood sports, not for me. Watched the Crown recently hmmm.

I understand the dislike of NFL but I like it. It's a tactical sport aswell as physical and it's a.........mental.

I like the aspect out all 500 players in a team the 1 player, the quarter back gets star status and all the girls fancy him.

Also the funny little phrases the commentators use for plays in the game. Like Touchback, Hard Count and flip out on the hard drive. Plus you have cheerleaders you don't get that on snooker or golf.

The most phoney sport, that used to be on TV, every Saturday afternoon decades ago was wrestling, including tag wrestling.

It was truly awful stuff!

Interestingly, Sir Jimmy Savile OBE, KCG, etc., dabbled in wrestling, even though he had allegedly sustained a severe spinal injury during the second world war, as a Bevan Boy in a coal mine.

The most famous obese wrestler that I recall was Big Daddy, but their was also Giant Haystacks.

The wrestling ring was surrounded by a haze of tobacco smoke, and guys swilling pints.Awful.

I was obliged to watch this so-called sport, because of my home circumstances at that time!

GAA.

I have never voluntarily been to a Gaelic Athletic Association sporting fixture, whether football, hurling or camogie.

There are several gobshites who feature on television, who talk about GAA as if it is a religion which it effectively is in certain counties of Ireland and amongst the diaspora in GB and USA.

Joe Brolly, a KC, and an excessively tanned person called Marty Morrissey, who do not appear to like each other, although their affectations may be phoney talk about the intricacies of games, that to me seem utterly pointless, but seem to reinforce some aspects of cultural identity.

Sports were originally conceived to provide a form of competition for the participants, but television opened up that activity to observers who are not taking part; in the majority of sports those on the sidelines, looking on, are bound to get bored.

Most sports nowadays are about money and advertising and air time to encoyrage consumption.

Have you tried putting new batteries in your remote control? You're not compelled to watch it. Changing the channel - it's what I do when I find darts, snooker, cricket or golf on the telly (and snooker takes over BBC 2 for what seems like an eon, every year).

Indeed. I've explained that I don't watch darts, cricket etc. However, I've not made disparaging comments about darts, cricket etc because that seems unnecessary.

The chap who doesn't like to watch ladies football is perfectly entitled to say so, but when it's pushed to "it's shoved down my throat" etc, I get a bit irritated. Just change the channel then. Mute the advert. Shut the curtains if your living room overlooks the training field for Arsenal Ladies. Etc.

Snooker (which I don't like watching) takes over a channel that usually has plenty on that I want to see, for weeks on end. However, I just employ my magic finger and *boom* I'm on BBC4

I'm sure they say the same about F1 and rugby (League, obviously, as everyone loves Union! )

I can get engrossed by drama in most sport, but bowls can be a stretch, even for me...

(even then, though, catching the end of a match and seeing them go for the gold - I'd be watching!)
