Our new King

What do the fine folk of this forum actually think of him?

When I was younger and started paying attention to the world around me a bit more it came a time when he split from Diana which came with a lot of negative attention, especially after her death, and I think for years that influenced me.

But, I’ve seen lots of couples go through a divorce and I saw for myself that things aren't as black and white as I thought when it came to marriage and infidelity. I also saw that both parents were much happier with their new partners, as he is with the Queen consort.

Also, he actually seems to be a half decent person with some of his philanthrapy and interests and how he deals with people. He was, as Prince of Wales, apparently a bit of a pain to PM's as he'd often be badgering them on environmental and social issues.

So, i've warmed to him over the years and hope he can go on to become a unifying National Grandad after the Queen's years as the National Grandma.

I now welcome the views of this forum telling me i'm wrong.

I agree. All morning i've been reading posts by people who think that the monarchy benefit this country and that the things they do are for US. They are a huge part of the establishment that controls us with jingoism , pomp, circumstance, smoke and mirrors.

He's just another average joe from a mildly disfunctional family- just exceedingly rich and well connected.

If he was living on a council estate and just getting a pension like most many his age, he'd be pretty invisible to the world.

I can't see how any of the younger generation will take to him, as they haven't grown up with him as King and doesn't really mean anything to them.

Back in the day Royalty were like celebs, but now the kids follow YouTubers and TikTokers.

I think, for the benefit of the monarchy, he should handle all the passing over of duties and all that is required right now, and once things settle, stand down and pass it on.

We need a younger King who has more in common with the younger generations.

I’m looking forward to him getting a bit more involved. On the environment in particular, but I also have a feeling he won’t let the government get away with the crap they’ve been getting away with for the last 12 years. I don’t think we’d have brexited with Charles in charge. Or maybe I’m wrong.

I feel sorry for him, there's an image of him as a child shaking hands with the queen and that speaks volumes, I think he had a tough upbringing and I think hasn't had a happy life until much more recently.

I hope he enjoys his reign

I think he's a decent guy whose heart is in the right place. He's got a few funny ideas but not much to worry about.

At 70 he's not going to be on the throne anywhere near as long as his mother so we don't need to be too concerned.

What with people living longer, we're going to see monarchs coming to the throne a lot later than Elizabeth II did.

A friend of mine works in the palace, and always says he is a gracious person. I think someone like that would have to have a bit of humility, so I think he may do a decent job, if that is his personality to begin with. Time will tell, its not been 24 hours of him being a King, or just a child who has lost his mother.

I have no opinion as I don't know the bloke. I don't blame him for being 'out of touch' with the people as it's not his fault he was born into royalty. When you are born into wealth, you have no concept of real life but that doesn't make you a bad person. Just because people loved the queen doesn't mean they need to batter the man before he's even had a chance to prove himself.

I was just having a discussion with someone who said she can't stand The fact the monarchy is an ending now the Queen has died.

She thinks Prince Charles is going to be a horrendous king Charles and when I asked her why she said it's by pure luck he is where he is and a privilege of birth.

I reminded her that she has a very privileged life simply because of the parents she was born to. She looked quite shocked but didn't have anything else to say anything.

I went on to remind her that her standing in the community is purely out of privilege rather than anything she did to earn it, That however does not mean she doesn't do a decent job.

Personally I think it will as some other have said be interesting to see how he handles things, he has in his life so far done a lot of good for the people of this country with charities such as the princes trust which I only recently found out he actually started with his own severance payment from his time in the RAF.

Don't forget he has been preparing for this since the day he was born. All I'm saying is I've seen a lot of comments along the lines of yours and I think we shouldn't expect him to feel her shoes.

maybe I should of chosen my words a tad better on reflection but you are correct in regards to her shoes being filled she was a one of a very remarkable person

I've more respect for him since Diana died because he's clearly done the work to maintain a good relationship with his sons. He stepped up as a father. It's a good sign.

Actually our Queen was never born to be Queen.

It was only because of Edward VIII abdication.

What I or anyone else thinks of the persona we have been shown of the new monarch is irrelevant. He was next in line, he'll have to do.

Anyone who thinks they know him as a person rather the image of the monarch is mistaken.

He has overseen the Princes Trust since 1976, working with vulnerable under 30s and helping literally millions of young people.

I've also warmed to him, and respect the way he cares passionately about things. He called out some hideous architecture and has been advocating regenerative farming for years (now very much in vogue). He's made some poor choices in his personal life, but then who hasn't eh?

I know he has done things to help. I never said he didn't.

I'm just of the belief that the younger generation don't look up to him in the same way they do influencers because for 'most' of them he hasn't had a presence in their lives and would seem out of touch.
