Mount Pleasant

Good morning to one and all,

Where were you?

When the sad news was announced about the passing of our queen around 6.30pm 8/9/22.

Glasgowish

I was sleeping before my nightshift when my mum phoned me. I knew she was very ill but wasn't expecting the sad news so soon.

I was at work. We had the telly on. I was serving a table at the time and one of our managers who's a die hard royalist came running over to me to tell me.

I finished serving my table and ran round to the telly. A meat head walked round and the first words I heard uttered were "finally snuffed it has she"

My brain failed to engage, and my mouth barked "have some fucking respect" at said meat head as people around the telly began to weep.

So yeah, disrespect is gonna be forever etched in my memory about that moment.

I was out on a run at the time of the announcement, had been monitoring the news feeds during the afternoon. As I arrived home from my run my phone was ringing and Mr NBVN informed me of her passing, then my teenage son came downstairs to tell me and asked questions regarding 10 days of mourning, the various protocols and ultimately if we would all have a day off.

NBVN x

Was watching the news, tbh I had said earlier in the afternoon I think she's gone or its imminent what with her family heading north but the actual moment of seeing the flag at half mast on top of Buck house was a bit of a shock..

couple, us we him her.

I was sitting watching Lord of the rings.

And something made me turn it off and put TV.

On minute later the news broke, which is very odd as I never watch regular TV.

Was working and had the news on in the background. I’ll remember it purely because of Hue Edward’s announcement.

We were in Kensington ready to head up to the Albert Hall for a Prom. As we were walking up a text came through from the hall saying the concert had been cancelled so we checked the BBC and found out.

"Was working and had the news on in the background. I’ll remember it purely because of Hue Edward’s announcement. "

I did wonder if he was aware prior to then and the pan across to buck house was the 'go now' prompt from the producer to allow him to compose himself..

Truss was told at 16.30 ..

I was speaking to a friend this morning who works for the bbc and said that The news readers across all their networks including radio stations were told about a minute before we all got told.

The Prime Minister and the privy council are always told 1st. Then the Prime Minister is responsible for notifying the other 15 countries where the Queen is head of state. Then the Commonwealth leaders need to be informed and then the public is told.

Just walked through the door and my son told me. Had been checking regularly while I was at work after the announcement she was unwell and I think it became obvious she might have already passed.

Northampton Somewhere

We were all at home. After reading that her family were flying up to Scotland we kind of knew something was wrong, not sure if we thought it was because she was dying or already gone. Huw came on the tv dressed in black, thats when I knew. My daughter came in and asked if the Queen had died, all 5 of us sat around tv and listened to the announcement.

Not sure how my daughter's friends seemed to know a few minutes before the official announcement!

I was watching it on sky…. But you heard the audible gasps of people reading it on mobile phones first!

The news readers and reporters were all in black from around 1 PM even though the Queen didn't pass till about 4:30pm. It was actually explained on a news programme last night that it was always protocol that if it was possible the Queen would pass during their time on air they had to wear black just in case.

Near Wells

I was in the back of one of lorries sorting and tidying it for over an hour

Went back into the office, the radio wasn't on, finished paperwork then home for 8 30

Switched the TV on and the presenters were wearing black. Rang my ex wife to find out, she's very royalist.
