Alcohol Free Beer

Getting more and more into this, often wanting to have a few at the weekend but with no risk of a hangover!

They seem to be improving all the time - can’t wait till they become a lot more regular on draft (as mainly bottles in pubs at the moment).

Tried the new Corona one last night and it was great with the usual wedge of lemon. The Guinness one is also really good.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Brew Dog AF IPA is nice.

Heineken 0 is OK.

I avoid Becks and all the Big Drop beers, I don't like them.

Becks Blue is disgusting. Out of all AF beers I've tried I thought Peroni and Estrella had the nicest ones.

"I quite like alcohol free koppaberg for this reason, having soft drinks all the time is boring taste wise"

But alcoholic koppaberg is one of those drinks that I always used to class as 'kiddie booze', like Hooch, smirnoff ice, metz etc.

Don't get me wrong. I love the stuff. But it's far easier to make a decent alcohol free drink when the original doesn't really taste like traditional booze. Much harder to do a decent job with beer or wine.

And as for those new 'alcohol free spirits'.....

Fucking awful stuff.

I find beck's absolutely fine, not sure why there is so much hate?

As mentioned, Guinness was a revelation. I genuinely couldn't believe how good it was.

San Miguel, ok, bit malty and sweet on the finish, which I'm finding on a lot of them, especially some German ones. Not great, but acceptable.

I think that's the thing though, they'll never provide that crisp, immediate response due to obvious reasons, and the taste is always 80-90% there, which is fine if you've got reasons for not drinking.

Yeah, the Brewdog IPA is a good one - just a shame it comes in those silly cans (like a lot of craft beer), a couple of swigs and it’s half gone!

I don't like the AF beers, they all seem to have the same nasty aftertaste. The low (0.5%) beers, such as Adnams Ghostship 0.5 and Shipyard Lighthouse, are good though. There's also some nice low alcohol ciders around too.

Yeah....I'd rather drink them than any of the others mentioned. I only ever drink the likes of Stella, Grolsch or Peroni. I've always said, if it comes in a green bottle and it's European, it's lovely! If its in a brown bottle, it's shit! American lagers are awful

Peroni 0.0

Desperados alcohol free although I only know one shop that does this

Guinness 0.0

There’s a Camden ale peanut butter alcohol free stout which is unreal! You can get it from shops around London and a few pubs.

And I like St Peter’s without.

Had to do this due to some medical advice most of this year, haven’t minded it too much.

Choice in bars is very limited, ciders are best and taste closer to alcoholic versions, main stream beers are mainly awful.

Foreign drinks can also be good too

Sunday mornings hangover free are ace, nights out can be a struggle when everyone else is getting belted…
