The uk has hit its hottest temperature on record, with a temperature of 40.2C recorded at heathrow in london and emergency services facing 'unprecedented challenges'.

London fire brigade is now tackling ten separate blazes across the capital as a result of grass fires caused by the soaring temperature, they concluded by saying that, if you see a fire smouldering, one should report it to them.

How much longer do you think that these fires can be or spread and could they be kept under control?

Given the amount of fires, I suspect they are already running out of crews and appliances, austerity once again having consequences.

One fire alone is reported by the Indeprndant as having 30+ appliances and 175 fire fighters in attendance, that's a huge amount of resources

It's a real worry of mine. It's just a matter of time before there's fire here like the ones happening in Europe now. I'm looking at the grass verges, parks, green spaces in town and they are just perfect kindling if a fire were to breakout.

It's 'grass season' which is normal every year at this time, but it's amplified by the lack of rain, record breaking heat etc..

It's at times like this that we all need to be a bit vigilant and make the crews a brew if they're working close by ..

I really don't know how firefighters deal with the heat they deal with in average weather. It must be hell in this weather plus the gear they have to wear. Props to them.

My dad was on the ambulance service, emergency service personnel deal with so much.

It's happening everywhere. The fire crew around here are saying they can't respond to automatic fire alarms at the moment, only to direct contact because of all the fires. Norfolk is similar I think.

Easier to blame government than take responsibility for actions it seems. I seen the fire in Rainham and seeing street go up in flames is quite strange. Then I heard a professor on Sky saying some fires in rural areas are started because of planning being refused or insurance purposes. Not saying that one was but a strange site seeing a street on fire. Even the reporter found it an odd comment and couldn’t believe anyone would do that. Will these fires be investigated? Or is it a true heat related incidents. I know some people will be devastated by the loss of there homes and hopefully are fully compensated for the losses. Some may even have achieved there goals.

What's the matter with all the moaners about the heatwave ? It's happended before ok maybe not quite as hot as yesterday (Tuesday) but in 1976 very hot weather lasted close to 3 weeks check records from way back and no shortage of very hot weather . People panic panic because the BBC and Sky say it's an emergency what a load of media scaremongering rubbish.
