Ok folks, 12 hours to go.

Who is doing a Parkrun this week and where?

Wincy Willis assures me it will be cool enough for the 9am start!

Who's with me?!

Ooh interesting. Not heard of that one before. I'll have to look it up and add it to the list. I try and do a different venue each week.

I'm guessing it's not going to be a mudfest tomorrow!

It doesn't get many there, it is one of 2 local ones without free parking (Aldenham is the other) they are both great courses but get low numbers

I’ve ran the South Shields one a couple of times and enjoyed it. Quite scenic overlooking the coast. Blyth and Whitley Bay are similar too.

Hmm..cat just jumped on my head and woke me up. Not a great start to Parkrun day.

Hopefully I'll drift off and get a few more hours in otherwise it will be a tiring 5k.

Still haven't decided which Parkrun to go to today. Maybe Basingstoke or Winchester, they've been on the to do list for a while now...

How did everyone get on?

I ran a PB (woohoo!). Mainly to get out of the sun and into the jacuzzi.

Bit toastie towards the end but luckily much of it was in the shade.

We do the North Walsham Parkrun.

It hit us pretty hard to be fair, both laid up for 3 days and then a couple just not feeling right. Still chesty and coughing but going to attempt a slow jog tonight just to see if either of us can

My favourite day of the week tomorrow - Parkrun day!

Who's in? Who's out?

Where are you running?

My Parkrun tourism trip is going to take me somewhere along the M3 I reckon.

Let week I was at the home of Parkrun - Bushy Park - with almost 1,000 runners. I fancy something a bit more low key this time. Suggestions?

Sensible move. I'm a fore-foot runner so my calves take a hammering. I should definitely listen to my body more rather than carry on regardless.

Burnleyish (She/They)

This has made me want to head out and parkrun tomorrow but it's probably not wise.

I did 3km on sunday, 2 on Wednesday average of 10:10/km... My local parkruns aren't great with back of the pack (they pack down before you've finished etc)... And my ME/CFS really won't let me push any faster at the moment (and I really really don't want a relapse)

Just have to work on building slowly up and once I'm back closer to 9/km over 5km, without relapse I'll probably consider it

That's terrible to hear they're not great for the slower runners where you are. Every venue I have been to they always have at least one marshall walk the route so no-one gets left out and no-one (other than that volunteer) is allowed to come last. That's supposed to be the policy at every Parkrun.

If your local route is a 2-lapper maybe just do the one circuit this time?

That's awful. Some of the kit is packed down at some of our local ones but never all of it. And there's certainly an effort to make the later finishers feel included

"We're both volunteering this morning, we hope others do too? No volunteers = no Parkrun. Whatever you're doing, have a good morning "

Perhaps controversially neither of us volunteer anymore. We both have well in excess of a purple tee all earned at our old home run and I'd been approached to be on the core team during lockdown.

But our event never came back, parkrun HQ were in my opinion entirely to blame for that thanks to their stance and conduct towards the landowner over a relatively minor disagreement. And being party to that information has left a very bad taste.

Some of the core team haven't even been back to other events since it restarted, most of the regular volunteers like us don't volunteer anymore either. It's a shame, I used to love volunteering and we still do a huge amount of work with one of the local organisers so definitely give back to the sport as a whole. But for now, our relationship with parkrun is entirely one way and I'm not sure that will ever change.

That's brilliant! Well done.

To beat your time, try doing some intervals and progression runs. Progression runs are where you get faster each km or mile. They can really help to build up your endurance and help you to stop going out too fast at the start. So, run your first mile at 8.40, second mile at 8.20 and third mile in 8.10, then a sprint finish. If my calculations are correct, that will get you a PB

My nephew ran his first parkrun at the weekend in 33 minutes. I'm going to help pace him to get a sub30.

Do you do intervals or progression training in the wheelchair? I imagine it's easier just to get to speed and maintain it?

Intervals, yes. Hills, yes. Sprints, yes. Not really progression training though. I choose to do an über flat Parkrun on the regular, just because it's easier on the shoulders but there's a tight loopback at one end, x2 and some areas where the surface is potholes so I can't maintain a constant speed unfortunately. I need to work on the turns more

8th female so I'm chuffed with that

Well done! My wheelchair PB is 30mins. Next objective is sub 30 for me.

I need to work on the turns more "

Intervals hills and sprints, I'm knackered just considering that!

"If you want an uber flat parkrun try Poole in Dorset "

I think the flattesr I've done is Surrey quays in London, along the edge of the docks abd zero elevation. Anoyingly the 3 dead turns mean it's not as fast as you'd expect.

If Bournemouth marathon was still on o could have been tempted by a fast 5km the morning before, sadly its a little too far just for parkrun?

Am I right in thinking there's an insanely hilly one started local to Poole now?

I’ve ventured away from my home Parkrun recently, it’s good to see and do different ones, they all have their own character.

I’ve realised my home one is probably mid tier.. there’s flatter easier ones out there and hillier harder ones too!

I managed to run 20.20 before I injured my ankle. 5 weeks off running and now I’m back running I think anything below 23 minutes I will be happy with.

Burton Upon Trent

We're very lucky around South Derbyshire. As they recover and landscape the old pits we're getting loads of great trails and lakes turning up. Beautiful running area.

Depends what you look for, my favourite local event is 3 fast flat laps, my partner hates it. Hers is a hilly tra run which I hate! So it's very much personal choice. Decide if you want road or trail and look at the local courses and try a few out. All psrkrund are friendly but they definitely have different atmospheres

I did a bit of parkrun tourism yesterday. I was 7th female in 26.24.

Anyone else?

I've done 16 miles today. Tired leggies now.

Did my local one (which isn't my regular one!) along with the run there and back so about 12km in total, still taking it easy with the pace and walked the climb so way off PB pace but the niggling calf seems okay and I've a massage tomorrow which should sort it a bit more!

A tourist visit to Morecambe parkrun for me this week.

Very flat and an appearance from Tyson Fury, who was out for his morning run and ran past in the opposite direction!

Well done

I must admit I'ma little glad Newport Marathon has been cancelled and I can't find a replacement so no need for any long runs in this heat (not that my knackered body would neccesarily be willing anyway!)

Anyone else out on the heat this morning!

I'm happy with mine, 3rd week back from imjury and less than a minute off PB pace with a far from flat-out effort. Was late turning up started late but passed 2/3 of the field which was a different perspective to normal!

Don't want?

Most of my local ones aren't wheelchair friendly because they are trail runs, buy I'd hope they'd convey that a little more constructively than saying they don't want wheelchairs attending

The one I'm referring to IS perfectly do-able by wheelchair, that's the frustration. It's round a running track then paved paths in a park.
