Losing a Pet

Is it me to do people feel a big hole when they loose a pet esp when young x sorry to be boring just had my 15 month old kitten run over and killed…. Feel so helpless …. Sorry it’s not a fun or nawty post

Losing a pet is horrible. We went through it twice in a single year a few years back, so we know how you feel. Hope you're holding up okay, OP. Our condolences on the loss of your furry friend

I'm so sorry OP. That's heartbreaking. My heart was broken when I lost my dogs from childhood but they at least lived to a ripe old age. A couple of years ago we thought we were losing our cat from a very sudden illness and I was beside myself so I can't imagine how hard it must be.

I feel you pain, I have lost horses, dogs and cats and it is painful. They still live very much in my heart and knowing that they are pain free and maybe looking after each other on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I have always been a bit upset over losing a pet such that in adulthood I refused to have any. I eventually caved in to family pressures to have a dog. He was a beautiful animal, a white GSD/Siberian Husky cross, looked like a timber wolf when he was grown. Although he was an amazing family dog with a great temperament, he was very much my shadow, and we had some memorable solo walks over the years. Aged @9 he developed a respiratory condition literally overnight. I took him to the vet who gave him a steroid. I was off nights, and he was allowed to sleep by my bedside that day, not usually allowed in the bedroom. When I woke up a few hours later he was no better so I took him back to the vet. He could barely stand by now and I had to lift this 120lb beast into the car. The vet sent us straight to a nearby specialist, and I was quietly frantic waiting to be seen whilst he slept at my feet. I had to carry him into the examining room, and whilst he was on the table, conscious, and I was talking to him, he died in my arms. The vet scooped him up and took him to resuscitation but I knew he was gone. I just walked out and had to go outside, where I cried like a baby.

People kept saying, oh get another one, but I never will. Broke my heart, I tear up just recounting this...

Definitely have felt a bog loss and would definitely be devastated to lose a kitten You certainly aren't alone in that

It's a real shit when a pet dies unexpectedly, you feel as though all life's joys have suddenly been ripped away from you. We've always had lots of cats (currently 5) but we've only ever lost one to an RTA and it was horrible. We've just got a new kitten who's only 16 weeks, so not going out yet, but we bought one of those microchip cat flaps that will only let the others in and out but not her. It's going to be a difficult decision for us to eventually make - let her out and be a normal cat and take her chances, or keep her in and keep her safe. At the moment we take her round the garden on a harness (Burmese, so quite comfortable with the lead). Anyway, Op - I hope you find solace one way or another. They're scraggy, trouble-making little bundles of fluff and purr, but they don't half wriggle their way into your heart!

We bought to kittens from the same batch so Amber has never knew life alone, I’m in two minds to see how Amber goes alone or get a new female kitten so Amber has her own kind as company, Amber and jet did everything together eat sleep play n fight….so heart breaking

Do you have other cats? If not, I'd go for the new kitten idea. Cats sometimes seem stand-offish, but they do enjoy the companionship of other cats. If my kitten, Maisie, wants a cuddle and me or my wife isn't available, she'll snuggle up to our elderly British blue. She gets hissed at and growled at half-heartedly, but she's persistent and wins through. It's so sweet seeing them together - I really believe they both enjoy it.

Lost dog two years ago on new years eve. Still miss her but kids got me giant print of her which is on bedroom wall. Still talk to her and say goodnight.

The various pets i've had have been more important to me than large chunks of my family, so over ten years on i still miss one i lost to illness far too early.

It hurts like fuck when they're not there as its the payback for being lucky enough to have them in your life
