Having more possession or corners doesn't necessarily equate to playing well | |||

"I'm a Liverpool fan, but that should have been a goal. It wasn't intentionally played so can't be and they're the rules, are you a professional referee? The retired referee interviewed on BT Sport explained exactly this, as to why it was ruled offside by VAR. No, he got it completely wrong ! It came to Benzema from an intentional Liverpool attempt to win the ball. Obvs no defender would deliberately play ball to an opponent. If it had been, for example, a back pass intended for Allison, but intercepted by an "offside" Benzema, then it would have been a goal, no offside because the ball was deliberately passed by a Liverpool player, albeit not intended for the Madrid player. In the case of the disallowed goal, it randomly bounced off a knee. Rubbish, you cannot be offside from the ball being played by the defending team. From the Laws (read second last point about rebounding/deflected off an opponent) Offside offence A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or interfering with an opponent by: preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or challenging an opponent for the ball or clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball or gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has: rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent been deliberately saved by any opponent" Those laws refer to players in offside positions when a team mate receives ball ! Nothing to do with Benzema receiving ball from Liverpool player. | |||
