"Just interesting as my post was based on something I read from a PhD professor. If you base it on for example criminal justice system then factually that is still biased towards a certain gender more. I am all for everyone having equal rights, opportunities etc it's when they are abused to make the other gender appear inferior or ridicule them. Happy international women's Day. "I'm not sure I get the question either, but I think the stats suggest women actually get harsher sentences than men for equivalent crimes - often, I guess, because male judges have traditionally judged them more harshly (e.g. not meeting their expectations of "womanhood")..." Way back in the mists of time I looked at some stats that showed that while women were less likely to get prison than men (historically), they were just sent to psychiatric wards instead. Men are responsible for their own actions, women be crazy yo. As the widespread use of institutions diminished, women were increasingly criminalised instead of being locked up in psych wards - their conditions improved, because their sentences became finite not indefinite. I wonder to what extent that kind of thinking carries on in disparities in the criminal justice system. I'm not saying it does. I don't have any data to hand at the moment and it's not something I've looked at for a long time. But none of this is simple. | |||

To suggest action is taken if a man stares at a female the wrong way gives me head shakes. A few things to unpack with that. First up, how is staring ever in a good way? Secondly, do you possibly think that being stared at makes an awful lot of women uncomfortable because they've been threatened or assaulted before? Being stared at causes people in general to feel uncomfortable. I was at work a few days ago and one of the lads pulled up on his bike. I was standing by the big window staring directly at him waiting for him to turn round. He didn't. He looked uncomfortable. When he came in I told him I was at the window and he said "thank fuck for that, I could feel someone watching me and I didn't wanna turn round coz it was creeping me out". Imagine that when you don't know if you're at risk of assault, in danger of having your life impacted in a way you never ever want to imagine but statistically you know IS gonna happen at some point. Men are generally told to man up by other men. Toxic masculinity frittered about unwittingly creating more harm than good. Yes it's tough for some men to open up, that shows me they don't trust others to show humanity and empathy, that they hold themselves to standards that are unattainable and unhealthy. An invisible anvil on their shoulders.... much like the anvil women carry simply by being women knowing you're gonna get assaulted at some point, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who "only" get assaulted once or twice in your life.... but it's doubtful | |||

Anyway what l do for a living doesn't have any Women in that same area so it really doesn't affect me , does a woman deserve to be on the same pay in the position she does as a male does ? Course she does if the same results are there .That is only in the same work area , does a professional female soccer lady deserve the same pay as a male professional soccer player , imho , no , simply because the Male end of it generates a lot more money.it all depends on what employment you are talking about . | |||

The promotion process has been built to favour men, which in most work places needs modernising. We're in the process of this in my workplace and the gap in narrowing. If the job description is the same, the job title is the same, it is the same job. If the pay is coupled to performance / sales, discrepancies will be apparent but that can work both ways. A lot of the time male and female pay gaps are not reflective of the reality. There are a lot more woman working in lower paid jobs but those lower paid jobs will be lower paid for men too. If the focus was moved to supporting females into better paid roles that would be a much better in my opinion, than saying woman are paid less than men. | |||

The men working in those same roles will be paid the same as women. This has been changed and is now rectified. Agreed though we need to progress and develop women and other minorities in the work place and that is part of my job in my institution is. As I mentioned above that the promotion process favoured men so it's been altered. Same as job descriptions going out, the way they are worded was "putting women off" so they have been changed. Same of information packs in work they have changed in the last decade to show more representation of women. I could go on for hours on this subject and often have to, but that's not for Fab. But these small changes but they all add up. | |||

In my work I get to see a lot of blue chip organisations and how they work. I have noticed a female heavy business department is equally guilty of showing favour to their friends and coworkers who deserve a promotion because of time served, as a male biased team. There are hundreds of organisations and companies that don't pay the same to women. " Even my organisation has a gender paygap even though a huge majority of the workforce is women (nurses and admin). Most of the execs are men though. | |||

We as parents can also give them better tools to deal with their emotions, which I hope I'm doing alright with.
