I looked this up a while back to settle an argument. The writer says he didn't write it as a Christmas film and doesn't believe it is. Bruce Willis believes it is. The argument was not settled. We fought to the death instead.

Let's break it down analytically.

1. Is it set in Christmas? Yes.

2. Does it have a Christmas theme? Yes.

3. Is it make believe like the virgin birth? Also yes.

4. Does Nakatomi plaza actually exist? Yes it does.

5. Is the words "Ho Ho Ho" mentioned? Yep.

6. Does a miracle occur? Yep

7. When Hans Kruger falls off the tower, does it signify the arrival of peace? Hell yes.

Based on those 7 points, I surmise it IS a Christmas film

Newry Down

The most watched Christmas movie on the entire planet, especially in the non-English speaking world is a shory 18 minute film starring a British comedian called Freddie Frinton.

The movie is called Dinner for One, but has an an alternative title, The 90th birthday.

It has been broadcast every year since in early 1960s, especially in Germany and northern mainland Europe.

Dinner for One.

Nope. It's a film that has Christmas in it but it's not about Christmas.

Bit like forrest gump has scenes of war in it but isn't a war film.

Harry Potter has Christine's scenes in it but isn't a Christmas film.

Although someone said that the whole film wouldn't work if it wasn't Christmas but I've not watched it enough to understand why.....

"Nope.

Nailed it. This exactly!

Bloody hell! I must have missed "Christine's scenes" - they sound thoroughly tantalising!

Newry Down

Die Hard, and many other so-called Christmas movies are constructed to become the Dinner for One of the English speaking world.

It all about money in the final analysis; the broadcasters need to fill their schedules at Christmas with a construct that people enjoy; Die Hard is a fantastic romp, that is riddled with holes.

They've got a magic 1950s car which comes to life and drives on its own. It even kills people. (OK, intelligent giant spiders, but same principle.) I'd say that's pretty close.

There is a TikTok of Bruce Willis saying it's not a Christmas film. Just saying.
