Rubbish claim to fame

Wolverhampton

When I was 18 I was with a friend in a department store. There was a man doing a talk trying to sell knives. There was an announcement over the tannoy that if anyone stayed to watch they would get a free gift at the end. Being poor students we did. We were given a box with a small sharp knife in it.

The next night in the local paper was an article about it. Stating the store had apologised after someone complained that children were being given knives.

I found it hilarious as everyone else watching had been a lot older. And my friend and I have always looked younger than we are.

So my rubbish claim to fame is just that, being referred to in the paper in such a way that no-one else would ever know it was me.

What's yours?

Me and my friend were extras in a Wesley Snipes movie. However, we both didn’t make it into the final cut of the film

I shook hands with Alan Rickman as I didn’t have a pen or pencil. He found it funny when he found out we were Art students visiting the Tate in Liverpool.

I have other stupid claims to fame, I did extra work for tv for a while, some funny stories.

Oh, and I may or may not have snogged a certain 90s number 1 artist at a college Xmas do.

Loads of times

1: when I was about 10, a news report was being filmed opposite my house about the factory closures. I was seen trying to climb the fence!

2: a couple of local charity bike rides, me and my mates made a few hundred, for the local hospital.

3: I was at the YMCA, when I was 17/18 and a dance group of 5/6 girls, of my age group were trying to recruit so male dancers (I can't dance or sing), so the photographer asked if I'd like to pose in the photo, trying to resist, them. That made it to the paper too. I think I've still got it.

4: the numpties from EDL came to town and were causing the shopkeepers to shut up shop for a day. I'm not a fan of far right groups or sharia law either. That got mentioned on the telly!

5: forgot to mention, in the 1980s, I helped out Alder Hey kids' hospital get into the Guinness book of records, by helping to paint a small wall, that turned out to be the world's longest mural at the time.

I need an agent.

It's only a matter of time before my partner's gloves get their 15 minutes of fame on Channel 5

My mate is in Una Stubbs biography.

He was on duty when the Manchester bomb went off. So had to get everyone out of the cafe in Lewis’s and she was in there at the time. In the book she says a dashing Policeman rushed in and ordered us out and due to his ‘commanding presence’ they did what they were told. He liked that he was called ‘dashing’

Mine is that I was an extra in a film that was filmed in Edinburgh & Glasgow in 93 or 94. It starred an unknown Kate Winslet & little known Christopher Eccleston. I did make the final cut, and a close up no less. But the film was a box office flop. I went to see it and I have it on DVD, but it’s quite a gory film & rubbish!

Film is called Jude. Based on the book Jude The Obscure by Thomas Hardy.
