Is eminem the best rapper in the world?

From the land of haribos.

I like him and his music do you? I also like his story to fame. I would put him amongst the best ones, if not THE best rapper, from lose yourself to I am not afraid which is my favourite one, he is a lyrical genius

Not for me.

There are certain rappers I enjoy more than others. Some I don't get/like but they're held in high regard by their peers and the industry etc.

I don't put any at "best" but I enjoy Dr Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Kanye, 50 Cents, Ja Rhule and Eminem too.

Definitely a lyrical genius! I stumbled across a you tube channel of a guy breaking down his lyrics and explaining them. A lot of his lyrics have multi meanings and plays on words that most people overlook and are sheer brilliance. The profanity he uses probably turns a lot of people off to his talents sadly.

Even Eminem says he’s not. The title can’t go to any one rapper. There’s no way to judge them all - including unsigned ones - and “best” is a personal thing. Favourite ... sure. That’s subjective. Objectively though? Impossible to say.

Eminem hasn’t had a proper club banger. Hip hop is derived from music you dance to, and he’s not had that one track that gets the whole family up at a wedding. A great MC yes, but the greatest? No. He is some way behind Biggie and Jay Z for me

Thanks for that. If you genuinely think that it requires no rhythmic talent then I suggest your sense of rhythm may be lacking.

Either way nice to see an accepting mindset on here. I mean we don't all like the same kind of music, but I'll respect the talent required to make it. But then we can't all be into Cliff Richards or Gregorian Plainsong (to be honest I hated it back in my days as a fresh faced young Chorister, RSCM Cathedral Singer I'll have you know).

For what he done with the Rap Game and taking it to new heights within the mainstream you have to admire that whether you like him or not.

For me he is a lyrical genius, some of his rhymes and flows you wouldn't ever be able to touch.

However, another lyrical genius is Tupac. That guy really knew how to rap. And the amount of empowering songs he made is unreal.

There's a difference between your personal favorite and the actual best. The latter being near impossible to judge as the criteria on which you could grade is so open to interpretation.

There are rappers that are technically gifted and brilliant lyricists but not so much to my personal taste.

Then there are ones whose music I enjoy and consider it to be "deep" lyrically but are they the best? Probably not.

Nas, J. Cole, Andre 3000, Jay Z, Kanye and the much underrated Lauryn Hill, are all rappers that I hold in high regard for either their lyrics, rapping style or overall music. Definitely not for their personal conduct as Kanye certainly wouldn't be on there otherwise

You can’t compare because they’re in a completely different music genre.

That’s like comparing Whitney Houston to Slipknot. "

If a singer can hit every single note then that's vocal talent, just how many singers really can do that ?? also talent needs no voice training - if you've got it,you've got it, no need for any training vocally.

Look at the tribute concert to Freddie Mercury - NONE could hit the notes he hit and most admitted they could not sing the songs

Both Elvis and Freddie could have even sang opera, how many rap singers could do that, lol.

"I like him and his music do you? I also like his story to fame. I would put him amongst the best ones, if not THE best rapper, from lose yourself to I am not afraid which is my favourite one, he is a lyrical genius "

Simple answer.

"An ugly reprehensible musical genre. Pure poison that contaminates young minds. Subliminal degradation of the human condition. Requires no vocal instrumental or rhythmic talent . Just stutter and spout mindless incomprehensible nonsense into a microphone.

We kinda agree, for example you certainly can't compare the likes of Elvis Presley or Freddie Mercury with rappers, those two guys REALLY could sing

Where is the relevance in this post?

Elvis a great musician, agreed, Freddie a great musician, agreed. But music and talent take many forms. Whether either could have sung opera I'll take issue with, as there is so much technique and training required to master the breath control and projection (amongst other skills) needed.

As I pointed out earlier in this thread, I have sung Plainsong when I was a chorister, and I was good (in my humble opinion) having sung in most of the Cathedrals in this country when I was a member of the Royal School of Church Music. But I'll tell you this plainsong is bloody dull, (again in my humble opinion) as it's only a few notes and it durges along. But some people love it, and more power to them.

Music is about expression of thoughts, ideas and ultimately about bringing pleasure to the listener. It is good if it succeeds at that. I very much doubt you'll have been to a Cradle of Filth gig, but those that have most probably loved it. By the same token if you put Michael Buble on your stereo and enjoy it that's fantastic. (I'll probably want to take a cricket bat to the stereo but hey, I won't)

Don't you think it's a bit insulting that just because you don't enjoy a genre of music it's perfectly acceptable to say it's not as good as a genre that you do enjoy?

And breath....

From the land of haribos.

I like the lyrics of not afraid and I find it fun when he showing the paper of the lyrics and it goes like this:

You can try and read my lyrics off of this paper before I lay 'em

But you won't take the sting out these words before I say 'em
