ChatGPT in messages & profile bio

Seeing a good bit of ChatGPT use on fab now for messages and profiles especially with the - that give it away.

Personally, not the biggest fan of it. It signifies that you can’t even write basic text without AI, then how would you hold a conversation?

Wouldn’t ignore anyone using it but what would you do?

I would ignore anyone who isn't capable of a proper conversation.

I haven't noticed an increase in ai because I don't look at a lot of profiles and I don't use chatgpt so I wouldn't know what to look for.

I wouldn't ignore them. I get that some profiles can be fully wrote with AI which isn't a good representation of themselves and their true personality but I can relate as times if they looking to reword or rephrase something and US AI to help.

It's a useful tool but the tool should never be the first port of call. More so like an advanced spell check/thesaurus to help you convey your true personality but never fully write it as I like to see people write from themselves

I am prone to redundant repetition, probably proliferate posts with over used punctuation, and can more than manage to be extremely long winded without any help from ChatBots or other AI software tools....

(Or at least thats what ChatGPT told me to say).

Full AI stuff is just annoying. But I understand if some people use it for spell check, grammar etc, especially if they are not native English speakers.

And I don't have any issues with that. I use it like this at times and there are prompts to ensure it doesn't change your wording around.

Now, the other issue is however that you are accused of using AI when, in fact, you aren't. Some people have a particular set of skills, one that makes us sound like AI. Or is it that AI sounds like us? I'm pretty sure I started it first, giving the fact that my teachers in school were complaining about my really weird style of writing. Unless of course we are talking about one of those time travelling AIs, the ones that send robots into the past. Then they might have been first 🤔 that would imply however that I, at one stage, crossed paths with a robot sent from the future and learned it's way of writing things I mean, it is annoying. You spend years creating a style that is uniquely yours, maybe a bit too structured or chaotic or just weird enough to stand out and then some stupid modern algorithm comes along and plays parrot. Now anything you write is seen as suspicious. the irony is that AI was trained on us. It scraped billions and billions of documents and writing styles only to come up with some half baked imitation of the way we have been writing since like forever. But that's how it is from now on I guess. 🤷🏼‍♂️ And no, there is no AI in here, not even for spelling (apologies for any typos or auto corrected words, I hate the phone keyboard 🤬 )

It’s pretty inevitable that people will use AI here, but I guess the intention matters. If it’s to aid in constructing a good message, then maybe it’s ok. If it’s because they are not arsed to put a bit of effort in, then it says a lot about them. How to distinguish between the two cases (and the 3rd case of 100% organic profiles) I don’t know 😕

That said, one small consolation is that spell-checkers have been available for 30 years now, and yet *gestures*…

I’m not so sure it’s that easy to tell the difference anymore between AI and nonAI generated text. A year or two ago AI text had obvious tells — overly formal tone, repetition, vague phrasing — but the newer models are getting much better at mimicking human voice and nuance. In short pieces especially, it can already be very difficult to tell without context or verification. I suspect the gap will keep narrowing rather than staying easy to spot.

Or so a well known ChatBot would lead me to believe.

The problem I've come up against is that some things were the way I naturally write. The use of the dash is really good for phrasing. So I've had to modify how I write to avoid the accusation of being AI.

In our profile I changed all the dashes to asterix. Maybe that's also considered an indicator of AI.

I can actually understand people wanting to pimp their bio's or create an eye catching message.

Generic as they may be it's probably a net improvement for the people that feel they need to do it.

It just feels lazy from the other side and sentiment for work done by AI has never been more negative.

The nerd in me evaluates the quality of the prompt they likely. Sure it's AI but did they use a good prompt and give it good information to work with? I've yet to see one that impressed me.

So yeah, it still comes down to effort.

But seriously, it's just another mask! Like over filtered or not recent pics.

And I would be wary of both!

We want to know the person behind the profile and if the have a one line profile and dick pic, they come across as an illiterate cock!

All the time AI is obvious it's not so bad, when you can't spot it, that's when to worry!
