Meets/Events upgrades

Totteridge/Whetstone

Over the next few months we're working on improvements to meets/events.

We'll be rolling these out gradually.

First is the ability to "fab" meets/events. We want to be able to see, and let you see, which are popular events.

We also want to prioritise and give prominence to grassroots, free (or very low cost), events organised by members for members.

Next step is to use the Fab'd data to start to show what the popular events are.

We're also going to improve the display, the search and the location awareness of events. The massive "regions" that event locations are currently categorised under will be replaced.

As always, feedback welcome.

This

or are they going to be more accurate? I'm not in the East Midlands or South East and it makes searching a little frustrating

They'll work on first half of postcode, just like the profile search.

So you'll be able to search based on town/city or postcode and a distance.

It would be good if you could register that you will be or may be going to an event. That way you can see who else might be going and even make contact before the event.

Other websites do this and it's really useful.

Or on the event " as who tabbed this?"

Couple of thoughts:

- Won't 'fab'bing events risk focussing all interest on just those, making it more difficult for the organisers to manage the event?

Would also like to see:

- Time of the evening (morning/afternoon/evening/all day etc). The text can still specify a more restricting time range if required

- Be able to EXCLUDE events where I can't attend (i.e. don't show me events where only females and couples can attend)

- On a similar vein - don't show me events where the list of people who can attend includes 'M' - BUT the profile says not looking for single guys!

Also if I've understood this part right : "the ability to "fab" meets" aren't you aware that some users already canvas and practically bully for verifications after a meet or party as if the verification was the point of the meet in the first place? Some people play to the galley

Would be happy to fulfil any criteria set by the site to qualify as an event organiser to get this ability for when I'm arranging socials. And also would be happy for it to be stringently monitored so admin know it's not being abused to spam other site members.

Great to see the site constantly developing. I think my suggestions may have been mentioned above but if not, this is what I'd love to see....

- I'd love to just search for meets that are looking for single males

- People shouldnt be allowed to posts meets saying they are after single males only to find all males are blocked from messaging them.

-everyone wants location to be improved in some way. To say location is 'London' can mean a meet can be 2hrs+ away depending which side of town you're in.

- rough time of meet would be great - I'd rather message someone to say I can definately be there rather than saying I can be there depending on what time.

Look forward to see whatever changes are made.

what I would like is where I could write an invite and just tick a list of names on my friends list to multisend, plus adding names not in my friends list that I think would be interested in going.

a previous social I co-hosted I copy/pasted and sent individually it was very time consuming

people dont always look at statuses and meet requests and some miss out

We were wondering that ourselves, so we put up a meet ( a genuine one). I, the ancient one of the couple, then went on to my singles profile and Fabbed said Meet. On checking back on our couples profile and the Meets section, we could not find any such notification that it had been Fabbed. Now this could be that I`m just so IT illiterate that I couldn`t find it or that as this is a work in progress, that facility is not yet up and running yet. Sounds like some positive improvements, esp with the postcode search.

Another idea I would like considered is a search functionality of sizes. We have athletic, average, curvy, fabulous and many more but can't search for similar.

Solving the location issue is a good start but finding similar people should be the next step.

Could you do an option where you can block people without photos as we have had many refuse to show photos even after getting to know them which is frustrating, seems like half the site is of fake accounts!

"Great admin but the biggest thing that would help people organizing events would be ability to send group messages to all attending or wanting info etc it can take ages to send them individually

I second this "

Agree also! Xx

"Regions need to be narrowed down more, for instance my region 'North West' can take me to 10 miles from Scotland and im in Cheshire

Id like this in chat rooms too. Chat rooms broken down to specific areas like merseyside, Halton, Wirral etc. "

You should try the wakes option. It's the whole of wales! Granted it's not massive but lumping it altogether helps no one. Let's face it, who from north wakes would take a 6/7 hour journey to South Wales and vice-versa? Not just for events but site wide. It has to be one of the most narrow minded area choices thought of. At least split it between north and South Wales, and perhaps make this a priority over all the other stuff?

Doesn't seem to need complete words, searching for "UN FI" finds your profile and "inma" finds mine.

"Would be good to be able to search by what type of person is wanted at the meet rather than what type of person placed the advert"

This is what I need

"It would be good if you could register that you will be or may be going to an event. That way you can see who else might be going and even make contact before the event.

Other websites do this and it's really useful."

Great idea!

"Will there be notifications if someone has fabbed your event/meet? Like there is with fabbed pics?

If someone wants to test it out on us, feel free

We were wondering that ourselves, so we put up a meet ( a genuine one). I, the ancient one of the couple, then went on to my singles profile and Fabbed said Meet. On checking back on our couples profile and the Meets section, we could not find any such notification that it had been Fabbed. Now this could be that I`m just so IT illiterate that I couldn`t find it or that as this is a work in progress, that facility is not yet up and running yet. Admin (or anyone else for that matter) - we would be grateful for any input.

Lmao ancient one

Well.. In the meantime, I had the same idea from my singles profile too.. Great minds think alike and all that eh!?

And no, it's not just you - there isn't a notification so it's not your IT skills hehe!

Hopefully this is a feature admin are working on as we would really find it useful "

Not so sure how fabbing an event may be useful... you either attend or you do not! Besides an event is not like a picture as after the due date it will be removed!!!

Why not create a GUEST LIST where users can add their profile under that party so that everyone can clearly see which party is popular and who is going so as to increase the social side before, while and after that party?

Great idea, we sent 80 messages for our last social"

This would make life much easier... I cannot understand how this could be classified under spam when if you do not want to receive such updates you can simply un-friend yourself

"there should be a lottery where each member gets chosen at random to orgsanise an event or meet, opting out of host with most roast is anybodys choice but those picked must arrange a meet at least or be sinbinned from meets updates for two weeks "

Why? I don't use the meets and events so why should I or anyone else be punished for it

"Over the next few months we're working on improvements to meets/events.

We'll be rolling these out gradually.

First is the ability to "fab" meets/events. We want to be able to see, and let you see, which are popular events.

"

Hi Admin

I haven't read the thread. Too long to go through at the moment but from what I can see, this feature is a bit pointless for the most part.

Mainly because I can't see the report to show the value of fabbing something.

As long as there is visibility of the result then:

If there is going to be a "fab" top event. Yes I get that because it'll show an event generating interest.

A meet? Well if you are going to fab a meet, it's typically individual and you might as well contact the person directly, unless it's a quick notification to say "We're interested, drop us a line if we interest you" (like a wink, so to speak).

Maybe a "fab" for the best updates would be good and they get a rank. Like a tweet or a retweet (re-fab perhaps). After all some updates are very interesting and are worthy of getting airtime as information sharing. And some are just downright hilarious and fun to acknowledge a giggle.

Xx
