I've contacted admin with this suggestion previously, but thought I'd bring it up here.

I would like to suggest that a section on Neurodiversity or Neurodivergence be added to the forums. Or, at the very least, perhaps Mental Health. (The two are not the same thing, obviously, which is why it wouldn't be ideal. Yet, there's a lot of overlap.

I mean we (STILL!) have a section on "Virus" and even one on Camping. I'd suggest that there are likely to be more neurodivergent people here than campers.

We are now into our 7th thread.. and often filling a thread every few days.

And as more and more people find us and relate or have experiences I can only forsee this growing.

As much as I would love this to be a purely neurodivergent section maybe we can gey a section with 2 sub sections ... one for Neurodivergents and one for general actual health and mental health support ...

I often see posts about people struggling with rejection or where are they going wrong feelings attraction or feeling lack of..

This can all have a huge impact on people's mental health and I would hate for somewhere like fab or fab forums aiding in someone's feelings of needing to unalive when there will be meny of us here to support

It's definitely needed! So many different subjects to cover within neurodivergence, it's difficult to keep up on one thread.

I mean there are Bikers, Camping and Games are message boards, which are very more niche than what we would love to have.

Statistically 1 in 7 people are neurodivergent and 1 in 4 people will struggle with their mental health in their life. Think those are pretty solid figures for why it's worthwhile.

When you also think about the fact that many ND folks are impulsive risk takers, dopaminers and/or hypersexual, I'm sure Fab has way more than 1 in 7 of us haha.

That's what I keep saying

when you look around you realise that a lot of people on the scene are ND. Having our own part of fab could help a lot of people have their light bulb moment.

I'm in support of this too.

I would suggest "Neurodiversity and Mental Health" as a forum name.

There often can be an overlap with some conditions; neurodiversity isn't a mental illness, but the struggles with undiagnosed ND can lead to mental health problems, anxiety, depression, personality disorder etc.

Plus, mental health is also an important topic in its own right.

I've always said no to this previously, I think we should be included in the wider fora.

But the recent threads, they're epic and I like the idea of is having our own safe space maybe accompanied by mental health too because while rhe 2 are very different, I'm confident everyone of us posting on the winky brained pervets thread has experienced poor mental health too

I don't necessarily see these things as a way of excluding us from the rest as can still use all the other areas. More like ... "We recognise you're here and your experience could differ". That recognition becomes active inclusion.

Ooo, great idea. Mental health is a huge issue in the world, as is people dealing with ND issues (I'm autistic, so speak from experience). Having a safe space to talk about it anonymously with like minded people would be a huge benefit to many. Got my vote

I whole heartedly agree.

I know there will be the arguments that “this isn’t the right community” for that kind of support but I disagree.

From experience in clubs and on these very forums, swingers are some of the nicest, most supportive people I’ve come across.

what's the issue with us having our own space? It seems like camping is more important than neurodivergence, which 1 in 7 of us have. Many adults are undiagnosed so it could help people to have their light bulb moments. But hey ho what can we do!

Just be aware that the section will attract a lot of posts saying "no such thing as neuro diversity", "learn to live with it", "close this section down", "why should you get special treatment", "it's just a fad", "stop calling me neuro typical, I'm just normal" - and that's just the ones that aren't downright insulting. Because NTs have no boundaries and they think they own the world...

Personally I'm not avoiding anything, and educating people may do more good than harm.

When I got my formal Asperger's diagnosis I received a complete spectrum of reactions from people.

At one end there was...

"There's no way you're autistic -- you don't have that 'special' look".

At the other end ...

"Well that's obvious and explains a lot; I'm surprised it took them so long."

Oh and the classic...

"why do you need a label?"

Well, I'll tell you why -- because for my whole life I was labelled by others; naughty, difficult, reactive, obsessive, eccentric, inflammatory, surly, arrogant, superior, inattentive, lazy, boring, impulsive, avoidant and so on -- and as such, my diagnosis is my label and it's nobody else's business.

Well I think we've been doing fairly well with the threads we've done so far. I would go as far as saying there hasn't been any abuse, which is surprising considering the majority of the threads on here have some form of abuse. To me helping others is priceless regardless of the abuse I may receive but that's just my personality.

at the end of the day, all forum posting is voluntary, and I've seen more abuse on Twitter and Facebook than I have on here.

I'm personally a believer in hearing the voices of those we disagree wit, even if those opinions are unsavoury -- if they don't change our minds, or we don't change there's, there may still be someone learning a lot while sitting quietly in the sidelines.

Still, if it doesn't work, it can always be pulled.

I would certainly read and take part in this section if there were to be one. I'm not neurotypical myself but I work in mental health and for me it would help extend my knowledge beyond my job role and give me more of an insight into how it affects you all. Its always good to learn.

I personally would be hugely interested in a forum like this. My own experience is that I in here, is an adaptation to my own Nd, the two go hand in hand, im very comfortable in that arena but recognise there are still many challenges to overcome and to have a place where my unique experiences can be shared would be a huge advantage in my own journey.

Because it was in the club discussion section. There is no right section for this or you wouldn't be asking for one so that is the best place for now.

Most sections including the camping one were born after suggestions. We shouldn't really complain that one section of the forum is more important than the other.

To the OP, all suggestions are passed to Admin if they have not managed to see them. If they are going to implement it they will start a thread in a new section to let us all know

In the meantime you could carry on with your threads the same way as others have done for subjects they want to keep going.
