Hi all,

So I'm bi, ( Male ), I have a female and male partner whom I socialise and go out with.

After reading certain club rules it got me thinking.

Couples/Women only night??

So I asked a venue would it be acceptable to bring my BF which in effect is classed as a MM couple.

The answer was no and only MF or Trans exception allowed. However a FF couple would be perfectly acceptable because they are female.

The rules on both the website and other locations only state "Couples".

Is it me or are the rules just outdated or somewhat discriminatory (Whether positive or negative). I understand companies want to maintain the Male female ratio etc, but how can a venue enforce such in this day and age??

Your thoughts, I'd love to know.

It's hard to police. How would they know you are a couple and not just two straight meet saying you were a couple who go your separate ways once in

Agreed on that part, but the same could be said about the 2 females or infact the MF couple. Lol

But if proof provided aka marriage certificate for MM... would that still not count ?

( spelling error ) lol

Hmm, but under terms of equality/discrimination that isn't the neccesarily the case.

The ladies and couples nights are about getting a certain amount of boobs though the door. If you really pushed them on discrimination they would just word if differently.

Which to be fair, would be reasonable.

Of course it is discriminatory, by definition. But there is a reason for it as you state. There are plenty of opportunities for men to go to clubs so I don't see that the whole system is discriminatory over-all. It's just in those circumstances. There are also plenty of gay saunas where you can go as a male couple which are not open to women at all.

As a couple, we would only go to clubs on couples nights and I know we are not alone. Men can be overwhelming on this scene. Women need to feel safe and comfortable. If they don't, they just won't go, and everybody loses.

My advice is suck it up and take one of the numerous alternative options open to you.

Not all that North of North London

A female couple would be admitted as 2 single females.

The term couple of outdated bit in the context of swinging clubs it's pretty obvious it means mf couple

Ah this is a difficult one for both the clubs and MM couples. I empathise with your disappointment.

Let's be frank, couples nights are gread towards females alone or accompanied. The aim to make an environment for female inclusive couples to play together or with lone female without too many extra guys arounds. Also I think there is a fear that single men will team up, declare themselves a couple to enter (which is probably very justified seeing some of tricks that I have been pulled in the past). May some clubs may make exceptions for those they know personally and know they're genuine and coming as a genuine MM couple rather than guys trying it on. Also in my opinion couples night is more for couples with someone kind of established history together be it marriage, a relationship or a good FWB/FB type thing like you have with your BF no doubt. Because many couples (whatever the basis of that relationship) want to meet and play with other established couples who share great connection together.

Now I think there's clearly a problem with how they lable these nights as couples and single ladies. Because it doesn't indicate that couples where both identify as male's can't attend. It would make sense to me that they do. Afterall they've already discriminated on sex to ban single male's, what's the difference to clearly state no MM couples? Although I think it's kind of taken that people understand its no MM couples on the scene. Maybe they should call it Ladies and their partners night or something like that to avoid complications and disappointment.

I know some will see any night where a group is discriminated against as problematic. I think why clubs are careful in their wording and hope not to be pulled up on it. But these different types of night are important to help people filter and enjoy the dynamic they want in a environment they feel safe and comfortable in. In general clubs should be for all but specific nights for specific things now and then is also fine by me.

Ultimately these are private clubs and therefore they make their own rules.

And I've spoken to people who run commercial parties that know that some men bring a female friend for couples prices, only for the female to foxtrot Oscar straight away and the male having got cheap entry to the parties, so they're now much more vigilant.

It's probably worth contacting a club directly and asking them. Also asking if there are alternative parties that cater.
