I live in the Rhondda so usually some sort of loop over the Bwlch/Rhigos/Maerdy. Down to the vale for a long ride though usually

Off road - mostly over the Rhigos towards Brecon area

How about you?

I'm riding up the Bwlch and Rhigos in a couple of weeks, are they just steady climbs or are there some steep bits

What side(s) are you going up? 3 different ways to tackle the Bwlch, 2 for the Rhigos

All ways are steady, and long but not overly steep. Your legs will know you've done it but no need to be daunted.

"Does wanting to run over cyclists count? "

I've only ever run over one

Stupid cunt had an ipod in and turned right straight in front of me and ended up on my bonnet

Lucky I was only doing 20

Was his own fault as he admitted as did witnesses but I was lumbered with the insurance excess to repair my bonnet

My son thought I'd killed him

Unfortunately not

Not tax no

But they should definitely have at least 3rd party insurance cover

Tax is a red herring - no one pays "road tax", it's based on emissions so cyclists, like electric cars etc, would qualify for none anyway & it's not as if cyclists are responsible for potholes/wear & tear on the roads

As for insurance - most people are covered by home insurance usually. Although I'm covered by Welsh Cycling membership as well

According to this the Bwlch from Treorchy tops out at 17% - can't work out where though

It will be as you turn the 2nd hairpin....lasts a few seconds so doesn't really count. If you want really steep try The Devils Staircase from Abergwesyn. Not the steepest in South/West Wales but it's almost a kilometre of 15% pain you won't forget in a hurry. Then for some masochistic reason you'll want to take your mates and ride it again.
