looked into sybians(fucking machine)phew £1300,I'm a fabricator,welder.

reckon with a little input from some skilled&helpful fabbers I could make an equivalent for much less,I've already cut a barrel in half, motor required now

May i suggest a variable cordless drill i'd guess at at least a 18v seen them for £40-50 (screwfix). You will have the parts you need then eg motor and the switch to make it variable plus you wont have the hassle of working out the electronics. metal fabrication should be easy. I recon all problems will be with the gearing again should be simple maybe dismantle a push bike

You could use an electric drill and i'd guess a dimmer switch or something similar for the variability

And no I haven't made one before

we know a guy who tried making one for his wife, he is now on the mk2 model at the first didnt have enough power. so dont use a small motor its better to have a larger one then vary the power input.

I knew someone who used a car windscreen wiper motor, it has 3 speeds and is controlled by an external switch!
