I know some have them,are they worth the outlay, are there any recommendations, faults or general maintenance that someone should look out for and what is the quarterly average cost to run one ?

We have a basic lazy spa that we use the summer

Pretty good. Had two years now and working well

Typically adds £20 a month to your fuel bill.

Haven’t got one myself, but my parents thought it would be a good addition to put one in a room previously converted from a garage. They also had a sauna put in the same room.

So, based on seeing the large hot tub at one end of the room and a wooden sauna a few feet away, both filling the room with little space for much else, I’d say that if you’re going to get one, set it out right, with areas to change, socialise with anyone not in the hot tub and anything else to make it all look good, if not impressive. It’s basically to enjoy yourself with others, the ladies needing to be impressed more important than the men usually.

A few nice touches here and there make a big difference to an intimate gathering.

As for my parents setup, no thought went into it, as usual, so the hot tub soon became a place for wet suits and surfing gear, the sauna became an indoor shed to store any special provisions such as Christmas luxuries which were out of everyday sight. That’s if you could get through the coats, wellies, dog food and other things which should never belong in a room intended to relax in a hot tub and sauna. They definitely weren’t in the swinging lifestyle either, although we always had pampas grass growing at each house we lived in, usually in the back garden.

We got one at the bottom of the garden by the swimming pool.

We drain after every use and fill with hot water when plan to use it.why have it running all week and not use it .

This way costs about £1 including the chlorine.

I have a 6 person style spas American style hot tub, it is worth it and does not use much electric at all, relatively easy to keep clean and i leave it on even if I don’t plan on using maybe costs an extra pound a week electric, when heating from just filling it up it does use more but once it’s warm it’s cheaper to keep warm than turn off, heat up when want to use etc, any questions feel free to ask

We do not use chlorine or bromide in ours. Burns the wife's skin.

Instead we use Aqua safe 90.

Far easier just change it every 90 days and clean the filter every week.

Well I did some research and I'm confused on water treatment and general maintenance

There are so many products, think I'll have a look at the Aqua safe, I'm not looking at dedicating hours on maintenance

I use chlorine, you can buy starter kits from places like Homebase, it’s worth reading up on water treatment, once you get the hang of it it’s easily maintained and takes five to ten minutes a day, make sure you test the water daily and at least 30 minutes before use, also when adding chlorine add 30 minutes to an hour before use. I found at first it was hard to keep the Ph balance and was always either adding ph plus or ph minus. Be sure to get Oxy shock aswell to keep the water crystal any help you need feel free to ask

I also use chlorine and find that once you’ve got the hang of it, it really is quick and easy, buying a small scales will help tremendously, shock treatment will save you a fortune and should be done after you change the water and regularly. I don’t allow anything more than kissing in my tub, I keep it at 40 Degrees constantly, but I use it 4/5 times a week so find it beneficial to keep it on, the fella down the road has a smart meter and his costs him £6 a week more in electric (I had a fish tank same time I had hot tub so couldn’t work out the difference in electric myself sorry). I wouldn’t be without mine now, it’s only a lazy spa but I prefer them to the proper jacuzzi after trying out several (purely for scientific purposes you must understand

when this one breaks I won’t be delaying in buying its replacement.. I bought it a year last August bank holiday ago and has been off for the odd week when on holidays but (touch wood) has been fine being on all day every day in that time.. it’s given me and my friends very many hours of relaxation
