Ok folks, I've spotted rats in the garden feeding on birdseed that has dropped from the bird feeders.

When I trap the little bar stewards what is the most humane / effective way to kill them.

Sensible suggestions please

How are you catching them?

Do you have any friends that have pythons as pets?

My mates a rat catcher for the council.his biggest bug bear is people who feed the birds and have these bird feeders hanging everywhere.they wonder why theyve got a coloney of rats running around theyre garden!

Theres enough food out there for the birds they are quite capable of finding theyr own food.

Thats all you end up doing as youve found out is increasing the rat population in your garden and area

I fully realise that.

What I want is suggestions on how to kill them not a lecture on why or how they are there

They are caught in a live trap, and no I don’t know of anyone who has a python

air rifle.or a blade tied to a stick and a quick stab .

there is no easy way to do it! poison is such a long death and with traps it can take a long time .

best way to do it is to put a spring trap in a pipe. instant death.you can buy them in pet shops or farm suppliers.

Why live trap them?

They're in more distress until they are freed, or whatever you plan to do to them.....

Use a good Jaw trap, in a pipe, as said before

But poisoned bait, carefully managed, is the most sure fire method

A baseball bat and a good swing will do the trick

A teenager with an airgun, then a trap to make sure you have them all.
